    A lot of shit
So here’s my situation, I’ve owned my 06 double cab since 2010. Bought it with 40k miles, now I’m up to 230k. I’ve sank a pile of money in this thing between the lift and all my accessories. When the frame recall came up, the Toyota dealer told me they would replace the frame blah blah blah. Well they wouldn’t put my lift back on and restore it to the as is condition it is in. I used to work for Toyota Motor manufactures West Virginia when I was college so I called up some friends. Got in touch with Toyota themselves and pleaded my case but still got the answer that they would not put the lift back on without charging me. So instead of sinking a grand in letting them cut the cross member and assemble the lift again I decided to keep it as is for the time being. Since then I’ve always kept it pretty well coated or I thought atleast. In cleaning up my frame this weekend I discovered some spots but haven’t torn completely into it yet to find them all. Since a plating kit is not offered for the second gens I believe I’ll have to do the fab work myself coming up with some patterns. I’m planning on cleaning it all up, coating the shit out of the inside rails where the bad spots are not where I’m welding. Boxing them all in after that point and coating the rest. I can’t seem to find any threads on boxing and beefing up the frame other than people just having the frame replaced. Any tips or ideas for me to consider in my new project are appreciated

    Thanks guys in advanced

A suspension lift is no problem to reinstall with a frame replacement. A drop bracket lift is another story as you have found out.

Check out @SGTCap basketcase thread and look for pics from @EddyRRT Tacoma, both have plated/custom frames.

I would of let them put a new frame on the truck, and worried about the lift later, the frame is a lot more important than any lift.

Am I understanding this right that you declined a new frame because they wouldn't install your drop bracket lift for free, and all you have are 35" tires?

Buy a set of $100 rollers off craigslist and get your free frame.

Oh, and since you have an '06, you only have a couple months to get a free frame.

Yotawv,A new frame and install is $12,000,do you really want too pay for that later down the line just because of a cheap lift ? NOBODY besides yourself on this site would refuse a new frame.Your truck will be worth nothing with a rotted frame as you already have rotted holes that don't belong on frame already.

If you coat the frame and then box it in whith welding the heat from welding will burn the coating you just put on and render it useless. Take the new frame and worry about your lift later. New frame 12 grand and new wheels less than 500 hondo, c'mon man easy choice to make.

I was planning on rebuilding 90% of the frame essentially when I got done few stock material would be left besides the front dog leg and some good brackets still I guess I should’ve mentioned before any of the ripping continues lol

Are you going to do this work yourself? If you have the capabilities to do that, then you most definitely have the capabilities to re-install the drop bracket lift after you receive a new frame... and it would be cheaper, and you would have a new frame.

Also as someone else mentioned when you coat the inside of the frame, once you weld the plates on that coating will be burnt off and back to bare metal inside the frame rail.

Honestly I would have a hard time turning my truck over to those wrench monkeys or "certified techs" to do a complete frame swap after seeing how many times they have "forgot" to put oil in when doing an oil change, or how many times they have "forgot" to tighten the lug nuts after tire rotation. But in you're case the choice looks pretty simple.

EDIT: with all that said, it is your truck, Im sure you can salvage your existing frame if you are 100% dead set on it.

Buy a set of stock wheels/tires off of Craigslist, have them put a new frame on it and figure it out after the fact. Crazy if you don't let them put a new frame on your truck. That frame is trash.

The fact that you intend to undercoat the frame before you start welding on it shows that you do not have enough welding experience to tackle this project.

Rust + undercoating = slobbery welds
