Today my SR5 stopped shifting past 3rd gear. When it goes into 3rd it feels like I was rear-ended. I tried the search function to no avail. Other sites suggests that it needs a software update. Of course it is Sunday so no service available. Is it safe to drive? Anyone heard of this before?

I might not drive it, you've lost those gears, maybe there is something seriously wrong and it completely fails on you while you're in motion. If you must drive it, I'd say nurse it over to the dealer first thing tomorrow morning and demand answers.

...called the dealer. They are towing it. At least I got a year out of it before it died. What do you want for $36,000?

I'm more concerned about the 36k for an SR5...
I'm gonna guess it was in s mode and we will never know the truth.

You should hunt for those gears... that's what the new MT folks do.... :rimshot:

Seriously though, it sounds like you lost a solenoid set. Either failure or damage to the wires connecting them. Please update with what the dealer finds.

I'm with Lt. Dangle on the 36K thing though. Sure hope you got a lot of oil changes, paint protectant, and nitrogen tires (including the spare) for that money.

some of you guys are crazy. anytime anything goes wrong its time to demand extended warranties free oil changes and straight cash back.

The truck is under warranty and this is why you have a warranty. Let them fix it and go from there.

Really when you tack on an extended warranty, various extras and then interest, $36k isn't all that far off the mark.

Maybe OP added all the warranties and rolled in some negative equity. Who cares what he paid for his truck - it's his money, let him do as he pleases.

OP, let us know what the dealer says. I'm curious to see what failed.

You can't count that as part of the cost of the truck, then. But I do agree with you, the thread isn't about the cost of the truck. Derailed.

Also, I'll get a good chuckle out of this if Lt. Dangle is right and it's in S3 mode.

as for the money, that is the best I could do on a double cab 6-ft bed. And yes, I got the shaft, especially since I can't even drive it.

Ah, a bit more going on here..... DCLB 4x4... It's possible one of the other diff modes engaged and locked. I thought we were dealing with a 2WD.

    At least it’s under warranty.

Did you ever check the trans fluid level? Some members have seen up to 1.5 qts low from the factory.

Nice truck. I have a blue SR5 short bed. Like the silver though! Hopefully just a minor repair and you get it back soon.

    SR5 Long bed double cab V6/Auto 4x4. Can easily list at 36K. My 2017 SR5 DCSB V6/Auto 4x4 + Tow package MSRP = 34.4K
Doesn't mean we paid that much. I certainly didn't.
