Hey TW - long story short my buddies and I are installing an amp and subs in my '16. We disconnected the negative on the battery to take care of the wiring and whatnot but when we reconnected the battery a variety of lights on the dash popped up. Namely, they are: check vehicle stability control system, low fuel + the gauge isn't working, and the seatbelt and airbag lights.

Boiling this down to either tapping a wrong wire or a blown fuse. Nothing we touched should have effected these... Right? Anyone have similar experiences?

Check all your fuses to begin with, also it's the positive pole you should disconnect, disconnecting negative doesn't do much. You may have tapped the wrong wire or shorted something.

As far as what you touched, would need to know more about what was touched.

How indepth was the installation? A simple head unit swap out or a full on custom install?

You should pull the Negative Terminal.

Why though? If anything does have power or arc to something don't you want it to return to ground?

Me, I pull both then connect them for 10 minutes to drain all residual power and capacitors, put the key in the ignition switch and turn it to start engine holding it there for a beat, leave it in run for a beat, then separate the terminal hoops and begin work.

Done a bunch of welding and screwing with electronics and never once had an issue.

Someone appears to still be drunk. Lol

I have always disconnected the negative terminal and that seemed to prevent electrical issues, but definitely let us know what wires were involved and just how you went about the install.

Remember you can always chec fuses. If that leads to nothing, backtrack your steps. You should be able to follow your wires even if you forgot what wires you tapped etc. Best of luck bro.

Agree with this, all the amp manuals tell you to disconnect the negative terminal and tape the end of it to isolate it.

If you just pull the Positive Cable and it touches metal then you are going to have a problem. If you are disconnecting both terminals always pull the Negative first.

Pretty standard install - keeping factory head unit and just installing an amp, LC2i, and 2 subs. Wasn't able to finish last night because of losing daylight, but I don't think anything we tapped into should have effected this.

I've read that if you disconnect your battery, a common issue is it can take hours/days for those lights to correct themselves. I dunno - after work today I'm going to try and backtrack and see what happened. Maybe get some other eyeballs on it too.

Definitely check all the fuses, and remember that even though they may look intact that doesn’t mean they are working properly.
Hopefully you can figure it out easily.

The other thing is you could disconnect all the added equipment and see what happens with the warning lights. Since you have already ran all the wires etc., it shouldn’t be too hard to hook it back up.

Right now, the only thing added and hooked up is the new door speakers we put in which work perfectly. Nothing else has been added yet, as in not powered. Pre-wired, yes, but dead right now, which leads me to believe that we blew something, or it doesn't like that we had to unhook the battery :|
