A dealership can do it. Hell you could probably do it. But if the shop that did it for you has a warranty might be worth letting them do it as having someone else touch it could void it.

    Damn..huge.

    Also bummer about the trucks..

Yeah, they don't look really bad right now but it's dark out. Hope they don't look worse in the day light

I didn't want to rush it. I took my time and made sure I had everything and I wasn't doing everything right. No point in rushing it and damaging something or installing something wrong.

When I say I had no idea how to remove a transmission or do any front end work, I really meant it. Biggest mechanical work before doing the 4WD swap was changing my brake calipers. Seriously.

My fear is people who do the swap will be trading the built in reliability a their Prerunner for the coolness factor of having a 4 x 4.

I'm on my phone and am having trouble expressing myself. I guess as long as a person had a real reason to need 4 x 4 then do the swap.

I'm in Michigan and during the winter months I "need" 4 x 4, 3 or 4 times a month. I would still have a hard time justifying doing the swap so my 2wd truck was FWD.

I think the swap would be fun as long as a person could look at like a hobby. Like golf or bowling. You know, things that cost money, but give you satisfaction, but are not going to stress you out if you can't do them.

I dunno if this makes sense or not.

So far I’m into the swap about 2 1/2 days. But that’s just for everything on the front end, not counting doing the transmission and tcase install. For me my truck isn’t my DD so I can afford to let it sit. And I have a lot of emotional attachment to the truck because it was my first truck that I always wanted...and I’ve always wanted to make the swap. I’ve really enjoyed doing the swap, as you’ve said it’s been more of a hobby. But also, my truck is my back up truck for work. For my job, 4wd is a must, it makes life much simpler. So the swap serves a couple of purposes for me.

If you have all the parts needed it shouldn't take no more than a weeks worth of time and taking your time to do the job properly.

hahahaha, I was wondering how long it'd be before Lil Red mods would start. Not. Long. At. All. :boink:

Doesn't look bad actually. Are you two headed out to give it a try soon?

yep. Hate how it rides now too. Won't be on there for long if i can help it..

    they are super cool!

fits the truck well actually. Aside from being too heavy to oem leaf springs haha truck isn't very fun anymore. Not horrible..but not great.

Not really a "mod" haha truck needs more maintaince then anything. The life of vehicles..haha

but yes, weather is getting super nice. Snow isn't melting fast up high but hoping we can give it a spin soon so I can either start restoring it or sell it. And get it off my "sports truck" :cookiemonster:

I feel like such a noob...

Bought some used factory struts and coils (or so I thought), but I can not get the coils to compress enough to get the top hat on, they’re too Short and it’s super annoying.

I honestly don’t even know if they’re for a Tacoma like the dude said (dumb).

There’s another pointless post by Jk

those usually don't fit in the coils on stock coils. I've never been able to make them fit.

I can’t get them in the top couple of coils for sure. I got my original ones apart.

I’m not really brave enough to try ratchet straps ha.

Maybe I’ll just take the pieces to a shop tomorrow.

Use a few straps me and a friend used AutoZone spring compressors and straps got a 6in spring 1in away from fitting a stock location on a Silverado. We would have went that extra inch but there was no more room to tighten anything
