Greetings - I'm Dave from North Florida. I am the original owner of 1999 2.4 manual transmission Xtracab. It has just short of 160K miles on it and is (knock wood) running fine. I've had a transmission rebuild and have done the usual tire/brakes/tune kind of stuff but other than that and oil changes, no major work.

It's a daily driver and also the tow vehicle for a very small fiberglass camper.

Body-wise, the paint has faded to dull. I'm in the midst of painting it using the $50 paint job method (Google "$50 paint job" - it's pretty amazing). It has a lot of rattles which I think are due to cracks in the engine heat shields.

My leaf springs are pretty flat and I'm guessing I need to replace those one day soon.

The only big issue right now are my front seats which need recovering. I've searched (so far without luck) for after market covers that fit the unusual 60/40 seats. I've purchased (and returned) a couple of sets that were claimed to fit but didn't.

My plan is to keep this truck on the road for as long as possible. For me it's about function over form. My favorite modification to the truck was to add reflective tape to the inside frame of the doors facing backwards. I used to be a volunteer firefighter and having an open door light up in the dark is a good thing.

    My motto is "safety third".

    Dave
