New guy From Puyallup, WA (much greater Seattle/Tacoma area).

My name is Tim and I just purchased a completely stock 2017 TRD Sport inferno orange with 11k miles on it a week ago. I purchased it as my new tow vehicle for my R-Pod camp trailer. I pulled all last year with a Toyota Venza… which was good but no place to put the generator and fire wood… and even so, I would max out on weight. That’s where the Taco fills the void.

I find it interesting that the new TRD gets the same fuel mileage as the Venza did (both unloaded). I drove up highway 101 on the Olympic peninsula to a city called Sequim last Saturday. It’s just over 100 miles from my home. This road is twisty and has several speed zones along the way. I would normally get 24 MPG in the Venza for this trip and was surprised that I got 23.8 MPG in the Taco! Driving all week in traffic to work was comparable as well…. Another confirmation for me I got the right vehicle. When I towed in the Venza I would typically get on average 12 to 14 MPG. I’ll find out in the second week of April what the TacoPod does. I’m heading down to southern Oregon to Rouge River to go camping with friends.

There are a couple things I needed to get use to going from an old man’s car (or moms car) to a truck that comes with a “man card”.. I miss my power seat adjustments, and I miss the ability for the misses to walk up to the passenger side and unlock the door because she has a fob in her pocket. I am assuming that you don’t get the option for the sensor lock or unlock on the Tacoma’s since I didn’t see a one at the dealer that did that. And I miss my leather seats… but I’ll survive. I also don’t like the gas cap and access door. There isn’t a holder for the cap like the Venza (and every other newer car I’ve had). I’ve fixed that by designing an insert and 3D printing one that works real well. I also printed an adapter for my Tekonsha P3 to fit in the pocket on the left of the stearing wheel. That works great as well.

All in All, Very happy with this truck! I’ll just try hard not to go overboard with all the mods I’m sure I will see on this forum!

Thanks for the warm reply everyone! I’m still trying to spend more than 5 minutes to lurk in the background… I want to see some of you guys trucks and what you have done to them. Work and play seem to get in the way.
