Should also consider adding what’s being brought so gaps can be filled.

I've got a sauce as well if others have their favorite sauce or a homemade sauce they like we can have a selection of sauces to put on the meat. I can just put a simple rub on the hog and then people can sauce it the way they feel.

That's a damn good dea for said pig, I have no idea on the cost of one but I would imagine $5 per head would cover it?

If I can still get them for 120 bucks for a half then yeah probably depending on the # of people and a half hog serves a lot of folks. You can easily serve 60 people on a half hog depending on the size. Like I said if I get a head count then I can get a better idea of the size if I should get a whole or half. If it's cheaper down there then someone there could pick up the hog and I'll bring the cooker. It would be good to have a couple other guys to help with cooking duties.

What I don't want to do is buy it with a bunch of guys saying they want to do it then when they get there change their minds and back out and not want to eat then whoever buys the hog is out some $$$

It's more babysitting than anything the excitement happens in getting the pig ready to go on and when it is done everything in between especially with the gas cooker is just sitting and waiting but it's nice to have help with the getting stuff ready to go on and come off.

It would be a good idea to collect funds first, rather than financing it yourself.

I'd be down to contribute, just let me know the paypal address.

I'd like to check prices in the different areas of SC as well see where it would be the best price and maybe someone else could pick the pig up. But that is an excellent idea, I like it!

Someone could also start a go-fund me that way we could have a list of who has paid, but they take 3-5% of the money IIRC.

I think the paypal F&F and just in the notes put your TW handle and name and whoever gets the hog can keep a list it's not that hard.

I just called Frontier Meat Processing in Waxhaw, NC and they can do 100-120lbs for $2.09/lb and it would be ready for grilling. They don't like to go above 120lbs. and require a weeks notice.

That sounds decent! Is that for a whole or will they do half as well?

This seems to be moving towards a pig picking instead of a smoked meat potluck. I’m good either way but some clarification is needed. Am I going to need to fire up my smokers or not?

I don’t think people who are buying meat (or even sides, drinks, etc for that matter) to smoke and bring for all should be expected to buy a ticket for the pig. If the pig needs to be paid for, maybe a certain number of guys should come together and split it to keep it simple because this can get complicated very quickly.

Fuck it, I’ll pay for Pat just to keep it simple and whoever feels inclined to chip in can do so.

Like Eric said, at this point it's 20 trucks. And like @dan0mite said lots of other peeps are bringing food too. So hard to say. I say we cook the pig for supper and everyone else can handle lunch and in between with whatever they smoke. This way, there will be a lot to taste, and a solid bet on pickin a pig for supper.

 Yes, I'd also like to know who plans on camping.

Yeah, I feel the same. I'm bringing meat...not sure yet, but I'll still throw down on a pig. This way we know there will be enough and it's a sure option for dinner.
