Is there any difference between the 2nd gen and 3rd gen Bilsteins? I know the part number is the same for the rear shocks, but the fronts have different part numbers. Asking because I can get a killer deal in the gen 2 Bilsteins.

There is a difference between 2nd and 3rd gen 5100 shocks, Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road had a thread detailing it. Notches net different heights, I believe the extended and compressed lengths are different too

After reading... the shocks are pretty much identical minus the collapsed and extended lengths...
I’m guess if I wanted to level my 3rd gen truck, 885 ome coils would do the trick with the 2nd gen Billy’s on all four corners. Front shocks would be on the bottom notch? Correct?

If I were wanting to do a small lift I could do a progressive 3 leaf in the rear and take out the “overload” and maybe bump up to 886 ome coils in the fron with the fronts set at the bottom notch?

The coils are what gives the truck the lift while maintaining ride quality with this type of setup. Correct?

Yes the 2nd gen 5100s on bottom notch paired with 885s on a prerunner will net about 3” lift in the front, on a 4x4 they will be about 2.5-2.75 I believe because of the extra weight of the front diff. It is NOT recommended to bump up the 5100s to another notch when using aftermarket coils like OME. The 5100s can be notched up with factory coils only

2nd notch up for the second gen bilsteins would be .85 on a gen 3 Tacoma? If using factory OR coil.

Yes I believe so, the gen 3 tacoma should net the .85 using the 2nd gen 5100s on 2nd notch

I installed the lift over the weekend and am pretty happy with how it turned out. It rides 100% better then when I had the spacer lift. But now I have a bit of rubbing when turning and hitting bumps on the cab mount. So now it's time for a cab mount chop. How hard is it to do a cab mount chop with just a grinder and cutting disks or should I just take it in for a shop to do? 285/75/16 is my tire size. Here are some pictures

Cab mount chop is easy to do, I got my plates from @JLee at Bay Area Metal Fab, just lay them against the frame and trace the plate, cut em out and if you don’t have a welder just take it to a shop to have them welded in. This thread should help you see how to trace it out and what to cut

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/b-a-m-f-cmc-plates-cab-mount-chop.192527/

Edit: I was nervous because it was my first time doing it that mod but it was easy af. I did mine with an air grinder and cut off wheel before I went and bought an angle grinder with diamond disk. It will just take a little more work but it worked fine

i know the bilstein 5100 2nd gens have 4 grooves on them and i was wondering if it is safe to set it to the top most groove for the 3rd gen tacomas? planning to use factory UCA and springs for now.
