Fuel pax have a short warranty, not worth the 20% savings

roto, they will last longer. fuel pax is thinner material.

That being said, either should outlast any of us.

This. There are plenty of rotopax failures out there that helped push me over to good ol' jerry cans... but of course they have their issues too.

Holy shit today turned into a Monday soooooo quickly.

    I believe in you!

I have a rotopax 4gallon that I fill up before trips for spare fuel... Yes it stays empty when not because I don't want fuel up there all the time expanding and shit... But I have had it since last year and used it in Big bend and every trip I take. Still look and works great.

If I get a swing out, I will prob move it to my swing out along with a 2 gallon water with it as well.

I keep 5 gallons of fuel and 5 gallons of water on the swingout when I'm traveling, but not for wheeling. In the bed I keep another 5 gallon water jug with my pump ran into it for the pressurized water system.

Luckily I never had to use my gas can on my big trip last year even when I was in the middle of nowhere, but all that water came in handy for cooking and showers for two people.

At one point in the panhandle my gas light came on and I was 20 minutes from the next town... hit a tiny gas station and they didn't have 91+ octane (supercharger problems) so I was forced to go to the next town. I decided to push it since I had my gas can topped off for an emergency and I was curious how far I could go once the light came on. Another 10 minutes later and I found a gas station I could use... I think it was 35-40 miles total after the light came on.

(I keep a few bottles of octane booster in my truck if there really is an emergency and I need to use 87)

Later that trip... same sorta thing happened in Idaho/Montana except there were zero gas stations anywhere. I made it about 50 miles to the first real town and put 20.89 gallons in my tank.

About to order a cb I believe, 18ft coax should do the trick from the center console to the tailgate amirite? Need cb, coax, antenna, and spring. Anything else I am missing?

Edit: also remember you saying something about the bamf mount and bed stiffners not working together. Can confirm?

Looks correct. And you are correct that they don't play together nicely, both mount to the same holes

That should work for your CB. Be careful not to pinch or crimp your antenna run... I think that may be what's effing up my SWR on my setup.

I have been asked about my fridge slide setup in the bed and figured I'd go ahead and give some details on it in case it could help anyone else out there in internetland.

I wanted a way to bolt up the slide without having to have another person assist in bolting the thing down - someone in the bed and someone underneath the truck - so I went on over to fastenal and picked up some channel nuts to fit in between the bed ridges under the bed.

    images_02330dab2736e843e3afd155714befe3f3c5c60b.jpg

Sure you could get nutserts or some type of rivnut in the bed floor... but since it's a composite bed and things tend to bounce around back there during wheeling, I figured having some solid metal on both sides of the bed/slide would be the best way to secure it without future failures.

I situated the fridge slide where I wanted it and drilled through the upper ridges in the bed for the eight mounting points as shown below where the shiny bolt heads are sitting.

    20180322_181041.jpg

I dropped the bolts through the slide and bed, and went under the truck with the channel nuts. I threaded the channel nuts onto the bolts by hand until the spring comressed some between the bed. Since the channel nut is longer than the width of the ridge channel, when it spins it can only spin so far before it is locked in place as shown below (fully tightened down, the spring is compressed).

    20180322_181831.jpg

I installed my slide right up next to the bed stiffener I had previously installed. I wanted the slide to extend as far out of the bed as possible. I had to grind away a small bit of material from the bed stiffener so the slide would clear, but it was no biggie. as you can see... I put the slide frame as far forward to the edge of the bed as I could, just touching the bed stiffener bolt head.

    20180322_181057.jpg

The hardware I bought worked perfectly for me... I bought bolts that were a bit long so I could thread on the channel nuts easily by hand and get the springs compressed. Here are dimensions for all of those goodies...

    20180322_181425.jpg 20180322_181442.jpg 20180322_181558.jpg

Hope that was clear as mud. Let me know if you run into any issues with your slide installs or if you have come up with a different approach.

Thanks Shay, will have to look farther into antenna mounting. Wondering if it would be possible to shave down either to make it work.

I bet if you cruise the bed stiffeners thread you'll find someone that's come up with a solution.
