I actually found a guy that a friend told me about for the lining. Went to see him yesterday and he will take off the existing spray on liner (have no idea what type of liner or when it was done, but seems many many years ago) to the metal and then coat with Scorpion liner for $600

    $600 seems a bit high

He is going to chisel off and use some tool to get all the old liner off and then coat it with new liner. I had quotes of $750-$1200 just to remove the old liner. He is doing both for $600

It is an existing spray in liner in there already or just a plastic one?

Gotcha. That makes sense then. I just did the Line-X on mine and it came out great!

I'm just going to re-coat my DIY roll-on Hurculiner for $80. My first one lasted 8 years, well, maybe 6 or so. I've been lazy the last year or so, lol... At this rate, my DIY will last ~40 years before I end up spending as much as a Line-X coating. But I also just like doing things myself anyway.

Does no one ever get Rhinoliner anymore? I had mine rhinoed in 2005 and it's still like brand-new.

Why do you have to remove *all* of it? If it is chipping and pealing, that will be easy to remove. Then just use a grinder with some sanding disks to smooth it out and coat over the top.

It's pealing, but it would take many many hours and I don't have a grinder or know of one that I should use

$40 at harbor freight... If it only lasts through this one job, still worth it, lol... You'd be surprised how quickly an angle grinder can take material off...

But it all depends on how you view what your time is worth. Like I said, I prefer doing things myself. I am my own quality control.

Usually, the low bid (which seems to be this guy you found) is the low bid for a reason. If most other bids are near double this, I'd be skeptical...very skeptical of his quality...

That's the one. It's a cheap angle grinder, but cheap enough that if it only lasts through this project, it's still an okay deal. Any additional time you get out of it is a bonus, lol.

I would start with something like this: I use these to grind/smooth metal, so they should work pretty well on the bed liner. Not having ground bedliner before, I can't say exactly what grit would work best, so maybe get a few different ones. Get a 10 pack if they have them...

Agree about the proper use of PPE. I was mostly talking about the particulates from the sanding process, which pretty much any mask will do well (better than nothing). Need to keep that crap out of your eyes, too.

Painting outside sucks because of the ever present falling leaf or pooping bird. I did mine in the garage with the door open and a fan blowing, and my truck was parked half-way out, just enough to keep the bed protected.

Will be leaving my truck off this afternoon. Will be seeing in person each process step before any spray is applied. Will get it back Fri afternoon if all goes as planned. Keep you posted
