    Anyone know what it would cost to have a custom made cage? Something like this.

    What are you looking to use it for? This one obviously isn't completed, but if you don't need the shock mounts and just want some rigidity you can whip something up using Bendtech and minimal fab skill for dirt cheap. The software is only $149 and if you can use a tape measure then it'll do the rest for you. You could buy an Amazon flux core welder and a cheap tube bender for the cost of labor then build whatever you want.

    I wanted to do a 63 swap with 16” Kings.
    I don’t jump the truck, just trying to get the most flex possible. 14s would be easier to fit but depending on what the fab work would cost I would do 16s.

    My suggestion would be to think about where you want it to end up before you just fork over cash for someone else to build a bed cage. If you see yourself as being happy with leafs for the life of the truck then it may be more cost effective for you to just pay someone for it. If you plan on a 4 link, back half, cage, or any other major work down the road then you'll be better off doing it yourself and learning some new skills. I was pretty intimidated at first so I paid a shop more than I'd like to admit. Browsing youtube I found this guy who built a Baja chassis and gave some BendTech tutorials. I bought a copy and started TIG welding and in a few months can whip up whatever I want. Now that I've redone most of the shop work for new setups I hate myself for not putting that cash towards a better welder & hydraulic bender and building my own stuff sooner. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8n0_ivJZHBDANHHHOWuC2A

    Just trying to save someone else from making the same mistake.

    Biggest problem is the welding, what’s the learning curve for someone new?

    It took me about two weeks of welding a few hours a day to be comfortable enough to attempt my bumper. After 3-4 hours I welded my brake line tabs, T-splitter, limit strap clevis mounts, and a bunch of other small parts to the frame & axle. Had my nephew who had never welded laying down some decent beads on coupons within about 20 minutes. With all the youtube tutorials you can get decent in no time. After about a month I made my own exhaust and found thin wall stainless was a little difficult still. It was also my first time welding stainless, but after blowing through a few test pieces and adjusting my settings it was still pretty easy. I'd just tack it then finish on the bench with an Eastwood TIG 200.

    With the cheap flux core welder I got off Amazon I was welding within five minutes. Using recommended settings it's so easy a child could do it. Now that I have the Eastwood TIG welder I don't touch the flux core.

    This is so compelling, dam you! I don't need more hobbies haha.
    In all seriousness, I appreciate the advice.

    Whats a good starting welder? also, would the voltage be an issue with my home plugs? or would I need something else?
    I'm jumping on youtube/Amazon right now! :sawzall::welder:

    I went with the Eastwood TIG 200 as my first real welder. Now I'm using a Miller Multimatic 220. Before I ordered the Eastwood I setup a 220v outlet in my garage, but I've ran it on 110 at a friend's house and it did fine on the thin plate we were welding.

    The Amazon flux core welder was a Forney EasyWeld 229 for $183 in 2017. I can't really comment on it as I haven't even replaced a consumable. As soon as I got a TIG welder I've only used the flux core once or twice, and now with a multi process it's in storage. If you want to pay shipping you can have the Forney for free.

    EDIT: The Eastwood will trip GFCI outlets if you're using the 110v adapter.

    If you can get 220 V at home a Miller 2xx series is a good start and if not a Miller 140 or Hobart 140 work really well.
