Guess I'm in the minority here. Bought my 2010 new in March 2010. Since then I've put only 4,800 miles on it. That averages to ~300 miles/month, or less than 1 gas fillup per month. It helps when I carpool to work in my wife's car. Also have a bay at home so she kind of keeps us homebound for now.

i've got a first gen/'98 tacoma v6 with 240,000. I, just this past winter, drove it from Southern Virginia to Michigan without batting and eye! It's still going strong. I've been in Jamaica for about three months and the toyota pickups and tacomas are about all they drive here (if they own a truck) and i would guess that most of those have *tons* of miles on them. You probably don't have too much to worry about if you are still worried about it since this thread is pretty old.

I do because I’m putting 23-25k a year on the truck and I want to keep it around 15-20 years.

I also mod my vehicles so high miles plus mods equal tons of money lol.

I eventually will buy another truck (hopefully an F150) for a DD then the Taco will become a second vehicle.

I'm already at almost 103k on my 2014, so roughly 25k/year and I am a little bit worried about it. I am hoping that I can get another 8 years out of it at this rate.

I do as well somewhat. I more worry about HOW I am driving it. 45 minutes each way to work in traffic, stops, freeway, more stops ect....I feel bad about. If I were racking up miles driving 4 hours to go offroading I wouldnt feel too bad. The annoying commute is a double edge sword though...I enjoy driving it so thats something. Id hate to hate the drive AND the vehicle.

Wow this is an old thread, but since everyone is here, i might as well chime in. I have 230k miles on my 09 and i dont worry about racking up the miles on it. I actually try to drive it more so i dont have to put the miles on my ‘13.

I drive about 36k per year.. so im guessing thats a little more than average

Misery loves company. I average around 33-35k per year. I don't worry about it, I bought it to drive it, not look good in the garage.

You guys rack it up. Are these mostly for your jobs? Or roadtrips? Or?

Amen, i figured thats why i bought a toyota, to drive the wheels off of it and never think twice about it

I have a 25 mile one way commute for work everyday, and then when you throw in the occasional road trip every year, it all starts to add up. I travel quite a bit from one side of tx to the other to see family as well

my 15 had 17k miles on, but I put like 8k more on road trips alone last year. I was going to keep it as low mile as possible, but I don't even think about it anymore. Wish I could drive it more.

I bought my first-gen last april and am on track to hit 30k problem-free miles by the time the one-year mark rolls around, which is about the average for me. It's a truck, and a Toyota at that. Seems silly to "worry" about the miles instead of just enjoying the vehicle and using it for its intended purpose.

Nice to see a 2WD in Wisconsin. No issues driving it in the winter?

Trucks that are used daily always have had lower maint. costs per mile or hour of use across the board in our 300+ unit fleet at work. Same goes for the heavy equipment. Our spares are a ticking time bomb. Non use drys out seals/hoses along with other issues. Keep up with the maintenance and run it till the wheels fall off! In my opinion letting a vehicle sit is the worst thing you can do aside from a match and gasoline.

It's not as unstoppable as my 4runner was, that's for sure, so I don't go looking for snowbanks to park in, haha. But I run dedicated snow tires with some weight in the back and it gets around just fine, and I grew up in the northeast driving RWD cars through way more snow than we get around here, so that helps. Went on a winter camping trip in the UP (Northern Michigan) a couple months back, one of my buddies was like "good thing you have the right vehicle for this", I laughed and was like "yeah... about that", haha. Even when I had my '96 4runner I ran snow tires in winter, and my mentality was generally "2wd until it gets stuck", so the key with the 2wd Taco is to just, err, not get stuck.

Nice. Do you throw sandbags in the back as well? I only do mild off-roading so my biggest concern with 2WD is if I ever re-located to somewhere that snows a lot (like where you are). I'd prob be fine if that hypothetical ever actually happened.

I run a fiberglass cap in the winter, which adds about 100 or so, and then another 150lbs of tube sand strapped to the front of the bed, which happens to be the perfect spot in a double cab. The soft-compound winter tires help the most, though. I actually thought about rolling the dice and getting studs, which are technically illegal here because bureaucrats say they destroy the roads (funny because our roads are probably the worst in the country anyways and the state has no intention of fixing them in the foreseeable future), but opted not to and never felt like I needed them.

My 99 tacoma had 600k when I cashed it. My 2012 should be able to do a million by that math. I’ll keep it until the odometer says 999999 miles
