Hissing Noise From Speakers

So, I just finished upgrading my 06 Access Cab's stereo. When the volume is at 0, there is a hissing noise coming from the speakers, regardless of what I am listening to (AM/FM, CD, iPod). Increasing the gain on the amp increases this hiss. It is not "alternator noise" as the hiss is present when the engine is off. I can hear the hiss while listening to music. It doesn't seem to increase in volume. I have a solid ground. I have moved the components, wires, etc but this doesn't help. Any suggestions?

Maybe a snake crawled in there and your pissing it off!! LOL. JK. Did you change out the speakers or anything?

 

You are experiencing what is called a High Noise Floor.

What type of amp do you have?

 

I would check or move the ground and see if it follows.

 

How is your amp installed? Factory deck w/ LOC's or aftermarket deck?

 

It is a JVC 100W RMS 2 channel amp, which I am using to drive the front speakers. I cut into the speaker outputs in the back of the factory deck, and ran the signal to the amp, which has speaker level inputs. The speakers are Polk db 6501 6.5" components.

 

I ran the Tacoma with LOC's and nvr had a problem but when I ran the Honda Accord with LOC's...I was getting a hissing sound.

 

Did you run the Power wire along side the RCA's by chance?

 

What is the amp model? I'd be willing to bet it has a low signal to noise ratio.

 

The signal to noise ratio on the amp is 80 db. I have an Alpine iDA-X303 receiver on the way, which I had planned on installing before hearing this noise. Maybe this will help. I'm sure it is a lot better than the stock head unit.

 

The deck will provide a better signal all around. I took my LOCA'a out, added a deck and no more hissing for me.

 

Sounds like a grounding issue to me. Maybe loose connection.

I just installed the Alpine head unit I ordered and now I really can't hear much of a hissing sound. I also adjusted the amp's gain properly, so it sounds really good. Thanks for the help!
