2016 SSO Slimline Bumper

Installed my custom SSO bumper last weekend using this tool (already owned it)

Easy control and nice straight lines since I deviated my cut line a bit from the instructions.


Required to have a front plate where I live.

 

What kind of deviation did you do on the cut?

I ended up with the Warn VR-10s and epic shackles. I need to take better pics of the truck. When I do my spring detail I’ll post up some good ones.

 

I think the easiest way to see the difference is to open up two browser windows of this thread and then look at the top view of the truck in in the lower left pic of Post #50 and compare that to the 3rd picture of my post #765. I took a 4' straight edge and marked and cut straight across where as in Post #50 it is curved which is what you get with the directions. Also, since don't have the hoop up top, that makes a difference to the top cut line I'm sure since SSO has to put out a single set of directions to make life easier for them. The second difference if shown in Post #90 when you look at the 1st picture...the corners appear rounded when you bolt up the bumper where as the marks and cuts I made are more contoured to the shape of the bumper and fit cosmetically a little better in my opinion as can be seen in my Post #765 in the 4th picture. Subtle differences certainly.

edit: I saw why ...need to cut it back further to clear the loop weld points, hence the curved cut
a friend told me to ask !

I saw the install pictures of your SSO bumper and they look pretty neat.
Looking at the pictures I noticed straight away that you cut a straight line across the bumper, instead of following the curved edge, as suggested in the instructions.
That was my thought also, therefore I was wondering if you could measure the distance at the edge of your bumper to the black plastic trim as shown in the picture below.
Another member provided 1 1/4" with the traditional (curved installation), maybe you can confirm or provide different measurement due to adjusted cut line.

2" ...I followed the taping instruction in the material exactly and then decided to cut it straight across so I just grabbed a 4' straight edge and drew the line on the tape. Then I adjusted the side cuts to match up with the new top line. No real plan ahead of time, just happened and then I started cutting.

When I compare the picture you posted from the one I copied from the forum, one can tell, that you metal bumper is tucked further under the plastic, I believe.
As I have a hoop, I will likely run into issues there and will probably end up close to the 1 1/4.

 

I agree with your assessment give that you have the hoop.

 

More SSO Install Pics with Warn Zeon 10S (A couple modifications needed for a clean install of the Zeon). The bumper was coated in a 2K bare metal primer then two top coats of U-Pol Raptor Liner. Raptor liner is super tough stuff and if it gets scraped it's easy to repair.

Here I've installed the Baja Designs 30' light bar and the winch fairlead.




Installing the synthetic rope on the Warn Zeon 10S. The anchor setup to the spool is pretty slick.








We connected the winch to temporary power and with my dad pulling on the cable spooled it in. Once the assembly is on the truck we will properly tension the cable.




Mounted on the bumper.




Now the fun part....trimming the plastic. Grill removed and laying out the cut lines.






A cheap HF Die Grinder and a skinny wheel made quick work of the cutting.






Nice and clean.




Edge trim installed.




Here's the factory bracing for the lower edge of the plastic bumper. This portion of the brace will interfere with the solenoid pack on the ZEON winch, other low profile winches will clear without modification but I wanted the ZEON unit. I really don't want to remote mount the solenoid pack so I decided to cut out this portion of the brace and fabricate some replacement braces that won't interfere.




My father starting to fabricate the new braces while I get ready to cut out the middle section of the brace.

New braces built and painted.






And braces installed. Lots of room for the winch now






With the center brace gone I supported the wiring harness with a snap tie.




Bumper in place, trim came out pretty good.






Running the winch wiring. I split some rubber hose and placed it under the tie points for the wiring. Drilled two holes and ran the electrical wiring out behind the drivers headlight assy.

Ok, anyone know which Heise 30" bar works in the 30" cut out? I have a dual row Heise light but it's like 1" to wide.

This ensures ultimate strength and uniformity in the weld, as you know, and we're excited to be the only company (as far as i know) offering this on every slimline bumper we make. Thank you for being our customer and helping us to improve our process all around.

 

Has anyone run this bumper with a 2018 that has TSS and a Pro Grill? I think the bar will be low and tight enough to the body that the radar won’t see it. I actually prefer the no bar stealth OEM look. But I am curious.

Went out this morning to try out the 30" S8 light bar. Pics were taken on the same manual settings for each shot. This baby throws some good usable light!

I've used Baja Designs lights in the past and they never disappoint, I love the daylight color spectrum of the Baja Designs lights, no weird blue or purple tint.
