Way bigger job than anticipated had to take bumper off to feed it thru. Got bumper back on just finishing up.

Quick question. I am interested in buying a 3rd gen 4runner. It supposedly has 30k on a rebuilt engine. Transmission rebuilt. 50k. It also has a small oil leak. Leaks on the pan. Its less than 4k. Should I go for it or walk away?

How much would it cost to repair the leak?

I'd be hesitant, unless the vehicle is very high mileage because for both the transmission and engine to warrant a rebuild there was an extreme lack of basic maintenance. God knows what other maintenance wasn't done.

I paid $6k for my 3rd gen.... Some rust with 125k on the odo. At 4k it's probably OK, but like @MattCowsmasher said, if he can't produce some receipts then you could use that as a bargaining chip to get the price dropped a bit more.... As far as leaky oil pans, everyone's mother's oil pan leaks a bit so that shouldn't be the deal breaker....

Other thing to keep in mind with older and high mileage vehicles is that you may need to put money into it because things WILL break down. Hoses will rot, belts will snap. Just be sure to budget a bit for unforseen issues.
