    The biggest downside I can think of with 22lr in a 223/556 barrel would be lead-ing the barrel.

    Accuracy isn’t great but you can still put rounds on the target. I was hitting a can repeatedly at around 25 yards. For lead fouling they say running a couple rounds of .223 through should blow any redidual lead and crap out of your barrel.

    I made this super scientific drawing and realized you can’t draw a .22 without drawing a dick. See the end of the device and what looks like an empty .223 casing? That’s what seats in the chamber and the red dick is where your .22 round lives.

    I was waiting for you two to come to this, YES the 22 will not hurt the .223 barrel but it will definitely foul the barrel with lead!!!!! so a really good cleaning is due after use.

    22lr bullets go through 223 barrel, but accuracy sucks. Among other reasons, twist rate is 2x optimal for 22lr.

    To clean out lead, just shoot 10-15 223 rounds after 22lr.
