You really don't need to regear with 255s IMO. I ran 255/85/16s and it almost felt better than stock. I'm running 285/70/17s now and still don't feel the need to regear.

Yeah, on these trucks you don't really need a regear until you get to 35s or bigger

Most definitely needed a regear. It was awful 13.9 miles per gallon feeling like it had a rag stuffed in the intake all the time. Never using 6th gear unless i was going downhill on the freeway. It seems better now with the re-gear. The millage is back to 18mpg. It still feels like there is a hole in the tuning from 1500 rpm to 3k. It has less irratic shifting and dropping 2 gears went away everytime i gave it gas. The drivability increased back to where it was stock. I live at 5000 feet above sealevel, in the mountains on a hill.

I guess it's a completely different experience where live due to your elevation. For me, I read all about the power loss and what not, but with the 255s I managed combined 16.5 (without taking into tire size calculations) and with the 285s I'm at about 16.

unfortunately when it comes to elevation + natural aspirated engines not much can be done to make up the power losses from the thinner air. When tuning in colorado (6k+ feet) we normally see uncorrected numbers at the wheels 16-20+% down from what you would see at sea level. So for example if the truck is making 200 wheel horsepower at sea level, you're making 160 up there. The only true fix is boost.

I am aware of this I tuned my honda with Hondata t66T3T4 on a forged block. Built and tuned my self. But there still isnt an option for a turbo or supercharger for Gen 3 unless I want to spend a year fabricating things and then end up not being able to tune it. If I had known Magnuson was going to take this long I might have started fabricating 2 years ago. I also had the AEM computer as well on another track honda. I understand its not an easy task considering its probably 5 times as complicated tune on the bottom then another 5 times on top plus additional items and then the stupid transmission programming mess.

Do you think with my 4:88 gears that your tune would still work well at 5000 feet? I understand This computer is drastically more complicated than those old OBD1 with programable chips.

Mat, what do you think about running the 91 octane tune at 6K feet with 87 octane gas? Even though my Audi says to use 91, I run it on 87 with no apparent issues.

Good morning fellas. I have more of a future state question...I have been acquiring all the accessories for a 2019 TRDOR that hasn’t been built yet. Heck, doesn’t sound like it can be ordered till July. With that being said, it’ll probably still have transmission “issues” noted by everyone on this thread. Does everyone feel that the “2018 AT” tune/dongle is the way to go right out of the gate?
There will be some weight added to the truck as well as increased rotating mass with 255/85-16, steel bumpers, winch, dual 34 batteries and truck vault.
    Thanks again for any insight!

I've been following this since the Alpha release, but fell behind somewhere around page 400 (I see it's over 700 now). I really want this, but want to justify the cost.

I'd like to keep running the 87 octane, unless its more cost effective to run the 91/93. For those who have this and are running that, can you give me your input? Aside from the HP/Torque increase in the mid range and overall throttle feel/performance, are people seeing increased MPGs?

    TIA for reviews.

I've seen no difference in MPGs over the long haul (nearly 15k miles on various tune versions) between tune and no tune or 87 vs. 91 tune/gas. I ran the 91 tune for several months and loved it. The extra power is FUN, and I hesitated to even try the 87 b/c I didn't want to lose the power. Now I run the 87 tune. For my needs, the stock power is more than adequate. The stock tune just makes it reeeeeally hard to get to. The tune fixes this completely imo - the power is there, easy to access, and pretty linear to the top. It's worth it, and then some.

No change in MPG in 87 tune over 750 miles. Truck driving experience is much better but fuel efficiency is the same.

No real difference in power or torque on the 87 tune either. I’m stock wheel/tire and only mod is a Leer cap.

Worth every penny for me just for the improved driving experience, but let’s be real, the tune isn’t magic!

So, I've scoured this thread looking for feedback on the latest tune with 4.88 on 33's or higher. My assumption would be that it will run like a champ, however, can anyone validate this? Also, is a speedo calibration necessary to avoid higher shift points due to the gears? Currently, I'm between 3-4 MPH higher than displayed. I also HAD the shift-sense pro which caused the shift points to hold too long, but I've since sold it. Now the gearing helped regain the snappy-ness and stopped the gear hunting on the highway, but I hate the low-end bogging especially off the line. I apologize if this has been covered; I appreciate the feedback.

Just bought a 2017 and after a couple hundred miles...not happy. I mean I like the truck but the shifting is driving me crazy. It will shift into 6th gear in a 45 mph zone. Then when I step on it a little bit it will rev up to 4k and down shift into 3rd. Holy crap hang on!!! My wife looks over at me like...WTH? Loved my 08. Found the TSB 0077-16 and had the dealer install. Better but not quite what I wanted. I found this thread and after reading all the posts.....just purchased the OVtuned kit. I'll let you know how is goes. BTW my new ride is a stock 2017 4 door short bed sport with a 1 inch leveling kit 32 inch tires and 18 inch Fuel rims. I really don't want to replace the diffy's with 4.88's.

I still don't see why you re-geared. My tires are Falken AT3 265/75 and the truck flys. I get zero bogging. Running 1.03C tune
Are you running super heavy mud terrains or something?

Well, I have a long bed so the extra 1’ And 17x9 wheels contributes to the sluggishness. Fully loaded with cap, RTT and gear push another 1k pounds to haul as well.

The tune will surprise you, no need to re-gear unless you are running a setup like
