You sure do, better to get a long breaker bar with torque setting, there’s threads and YouTube videos.

so, actually tried adjusting the bed first today. I got all the bolts loose without any breaker bar which was surprising actually. I didn't remove the bolts just had them loose, but my bed wouldn't adjust at all. it wouldn't slide one way or the other. so, did I do something wrong? did I not have the bolts out far enough? my bed is about a 1/4"-3/8" off from one side to another. my tailgate gap is good, but my bumper gap is still 1/2" bigger on driver's side.

I have only adjusted the bumper. I can’t speak to the bed. Good luck.

Loosen the bolts a bit more until they’re not touching the bed surface.

I adjusted mine recently. It will move easily.

Pull with your hands on the top rail. Don’t push from the outside, to avoid denting panel.

I had them that loose when I tried, and nothing. I pushed and pulled and it didn't move hardly at all. it would rock up and down but not side to side or forward and back.

Are there any standoffs under the bed bolted to the frame?

Basically a rod, plate, etc, with one end attached to the bed and the other attached to the frame.

I'm betting there is, probably with a slotted bolt hole on one end.

I don't have photos. Just look for anything attached to the bed that is also attached to the frame.

The 3rd Gen standoffs brackets attach back to the bed.(Just Looked) You said you could rock it up and down. Try to loosen them a bit more, lift up to break seal and then try to adjust. If that doesn't work you maybe limited on adjustment. (Standoff brackets. They are in front and behind wheel opening. for your reference))

It's the flat metal 2"/3" wide bracket from bottom of wheel opening (Front and Back) roughly 45 degree angle up to bottom of bed. Sorry no cam with me right now.Phone cam broke. No need to loosen it.

Go to this link https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/16-tacoma-bumper-cap-removal.404082/page-5#post-13263852 and follow down to step 6 but instead of removing the end caps loosen the mounting hardware and adjust both side to the proper gaps and then re-assembly the top cap/license plate etc...

Alignment of the bed may be helpful if bad off but most of your adjustments will probably be with the end caps.

From other post going to the dealer has not been helpful, but they say the bumper can't be adjusted. Show them you know they can and force the issue or do it yourself for peace of mind.

Mind is off just like yours. Let me and others know if this works, I think it is the way to go.

This is the write-up I followed to align my bumper. Your explanation is good. You may have to adjust both sides to get them to align. There is not a lot of movement individually. I also loosened up the center of the bumper for a little bit more play.
