Back-feeding 12VDC through cig. lighter socket during battery change

Is it OK to back-feed an external 12VDC power source through the cigarette lighter socket during a battery change to keep the vehicle's electronics alive? This is obviously to prevent resets.

There are products available that do exactly this. I can't see how it would hurt anything. The 12v backfeed would just be connected in parallel to the battery when reconnected, that would be like connecting jumper cables. Even on a fully charged battery that won't hurt anything.

If your lighter is not powered up with the key off like most aren’t,,, it won’t work.
FYI....

 

Just what are you doing or trying to do ??

Just what presets ??

Take the ground off the battery or remove it you no longer have a complete circuit it won`t work
