I have heard that from more that a few people

 

I would have popped the hood and checked everything before leaving . Even go as far as crawling under it!

I had no idea it was like this when I left the first dealer and after I saw it at the 2nd dealer I told them I wasn't gonna drive it and they told me it was best if I didn't. So its been sitting there for 2 weeks already a probably another 2 months. They said frame would take 6 to 8 weeks to get it in.

 

I would have liked to do that. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time as I had my son with me and needed to get to work. I agree that is definitely the way to go and would suggest that everyone else do it.
I had a nightmare on the phone with the dealer when I discovered the problems, mostly due to the service manager being out that day. No one could give me an answer or make a decision. I was told they wouldn’t give me a loaner until they looked at it.
Eventually, I got a manager on the phone and told him I wasn’t driving it. They sent a tow truck and I got another loaner. They also did a full detail inside and out due to my complaint of several scratches, scuff marks, and grease stains ALL OVER the exterior.
All in all, I would still say it was a fairly painless process despite the hiccups. I am still in a loaner and will pick it up Monday.
I was told they will not replace the tow hitch, mine is rusted badly and I had to cut out a rusted in ball mount last year.

 

Update: Just did a oil change took a look at the frame. It is cracked There is rust inside the crack the crack is where the frame transitions from boxed to channel. @maachuu is much worse.

Oh, BTW this frame is post CRC application

 

Took it into the dealership. They are going to replace the frame under the recall. 30-60 day wait. 4Runner for a loaner until I get my truck back.

 

Must have got screwed! Never checked back.

 

Had mine inspected (passed) and CRC applied two years ago. It is now waiting for a new frame at the same dealership that did the inspection two years ago.

 

That is exactly where mine failed! Keep a eye on it!

 

Exactly how I felt when I got approved!

 

First post and going in tomorrow for frame replacement on a 2005 Doublecab longbed. Colorado truck, original owner, garaged nightly and washed regularly.
Truck look great underneath including frame except for a huge rust cancer on inside frame passenger side next to the cat. About 5 inches long overall and the round portion lower-left is 2 inches diameter. Getting shocks and strut cartridges replaced.

Here's a picture if I can gets pics right on first post. Big pile of rusted metal inside the frame under the hole. The black metal is looking through the hole to the outside surface of the frame!

 

DAMN!

 

They let you leave and drive around on that? Mine is out of service until swap is done. Toyota is classifying these frames as unsafe if they have rust perforations.

 

So I have some time to think and get everything lined up. The question is what else should I have done/added to the Taco when they swap the frame?
-Very light off-road use. (Old lumber roads)
-Mostly highway use
-Towing around 3000#

They never even suggested leaving it with them. i drove it 3 months after it failed inspection and I didn't crawl around under it to see how big the frame hole was until this weekend - yikes!
Got a 2017 Nissan Rogue loaner today as the dealer goes through Enterprise. An under-powered mush-mobile with zero steering feedback - but now I know.
Said they would have it done Friday or Saturday - so a full week. So far, so good.
