I noticed that politics are forbidden here...but slamming religion is a-okay!

Makes no sense...must be above my pay grade.

yup...it's forbidden not because the guys who run the site hate religion. it's because how ugly things get. strangely the religious "fights" are much tamer and passive than the politics ones.

I'd rather have someone tell me politics suck, and so do I, than my religion. Those is fightin' werds!

You, know, as a newer member, I've got to say that I was trippin' pretty hard at the sheer amount of off-topic discussion on a TRUCK forum . I know you guys (and I) have a lot of fun fooling around and discussing all walks of life, but man, with all the crap we have been bombarded by (no pun intented) as a nation for the past decade and every day in the news, I was hoping that a truck site would be (I know, this is really weird) more about trucks and technical stuff...and provide some escape from all the politically charged, sensationalistic, daily noise and talking heads in our lives. :argue:

I don't know any of you in person, and I know a lot of you have great real-life relationships with each other, and I joined this crazy TW beast that already existed way before I came along, but I just thought I'd share my thoughts and observations.

I guess when I come here, I expect truck stuff (and amberlamps and cmack antics).

If I wanted to participate in political or other topics that have similar sensitivties, I would go to sites that focus on that. I try to ignore what I don't care to see here, and it's my choice to click on whatever I want.

    :lalala:

But on the home page, that seems to be getting harder and harder to filter through the non-truck noise tht flies in the face of the TW code of conduct:

"Use of offensive and inflammatory language, discussions or content targeting an ethnic, political or religious group, gender, sexual orientation, name calling, and humiliating or bashing members is prohibited in the forums of Tacoma World. Political discussion, talk or displays of street racing and excessive speeding are also not permitted on Tacoma World. Posting links or information for the purpose of pirating or illegally obtaining products is also prohibited."

    Even though cmack is gay.

    Again, just my 2 cents...

That's why there's truck specific sections and off-topic specific sections. ;)

If you want to read about just the truck stuff, then stay in the truck specific sections. :p

Yeah, that simple concept and approach is not beyond my meager mental capabilities. What I was pointing out is that it is plastered all over the home page's recent posts as soon as you go to the home page. It is inescapable... I thought I had made those points in my original post.

Not to start a fight but: You mean issues gun enthusiasts care about that aren't on most other people's radars in any way?

First off, NO! Not just gun issues. He brings up issues about peoples rights being taken away, attacks against our constitution, Americans freedoms being attacked, and many other important issues. And gun rights should be on everyones radar. If they can attack and eliminate the 2nd amendment, then can attack them all. You may not interested in gun rights. You may not give a rats ass at all. But think of the rights you do care about. Think about the government taking those rights away. Guns are the first step. Then the rest will follow. We all need to stand up against the government when they infringe Americans rights, regardless of what those rights regard.

Oh I keep watch on all of those. But 90% of the semi-political threads I see Packer post seem to be about some isolated gun incident in city X, or some gun bill in city Y.

Not baggin' on the guy - if it's what he wants to discuss, power to him. Most people just aren't concerned. And by "most people" I mean the population of the United States...not necessarily most people here on TW.

sorry to butt in, I went back and reread the posts and correct me if i'm wrong, but it looks like you didn't like NRAfan saying Packers posts are 'real issues of this country'. Lately I thought Packer was posting about some immigration issues.

If city X has a criminal use a gun on a good standing citizen that wasn't able to carry and defend themselves due to gun bill in city X, shouldn't that be a concern of everyone on several levels? I must have missed a discussion where you are scared of/against guns or something.

And on the religious threads on TW note, Packer(who's had more threads closed than anyone probably) doesn't complain about religious threads on TW(that I've ever seen), then why should anyone else. He would have more of a reason than anyone.

It's not a like or dislike thing - I think it's just an inaccurate description. But then, by my own admission, this is just what I've noticed and not a comprehensive observation by any means. I see lots of gun threads and not much else.

I've long been a firm believer than gun control is some of the stupidest legislation in the world.

That being said, I don't obsess or even care about isolated criminal incidents, no. And I don't intend to start. Further evidence that restricting law-abiding citizens' access to firearms isn't the lesser evil is not needed - that's been the only conclusion a critically thinking person could reach for about 50 years now. People who think otherwise are simply wrong and in denial of the facts.

Getting back to the threads in question, if there are real issues being discussed, that's fine, but I haven't noticed them - I've just seen repetitive gun rants.

This may be due in part to the difficulty, especially on here, of discussing issues confronting the country without the thread going political.

^thanks for some clarification j. All due respect given....but......I don't see Packer as obssesive nor do I see it as 'repetitive gun rants'. I call it passion.

From here we can calmly do what often happens on this wonderful site, we can agree to disagree.:)
