Im getting a 2018 Tacoma next weekend and i got the chance to choose between OEM soft or hard tonneau cover. I can get the soft for 400$cad and the rigid for 1000$cad. Ive searched this forum quite a bit and i still can't tell wich one i prefer. I would like the rigid TN since it is more safe and lockable but i don't like the look so much and i wonder how durable it is with all those moving pieces and seals??? I prefer the look of the soft cover and how light it is to take off. Plus it look more waterproof to me?

Everyone opinion is greatly welcome since i got to give my answer tomorrow monday.

    Thanks in advance.

Realizing this is kind of like telling you which color blue to use, but here goes. In your area what type of driving conditions would you experience during a typical year. How would the Tonneau cover be used? i.e. would an EOM function during the winter? do you normally carry things in the truck bed that need protection or just the occasional item(s)? will you be getting into the bed daily or just every so often? Is the colour of the cover going to look good with your new truck (may be silly but ya never know) and is the ridged one able to be colour matched to your truck or is it a just a colour "very close" to the Toyota color code?
In the summer will you be cruseing the boulevard and getting the envious looks or is this a regular truck, some work some play? might have a barring on your choice. Finally is the 600$CDN goin to be a hindrance to you enjoyment of your truck ( the old, boy, I sure paid too much and could have used the $$ for a new XXX) .
Good Luck I am sure your choice will be the correct one Also enjoy the heck out of your new 3D gen Tacoma
