What's the first maintenance you'd do?

    Just got a 05 Tacoma v6 and am wondering what I can do maintenance wise? I changed the oil and oil filter and air filter, what else should I do thats pretty easy? What fluid is most important to change? Transmission? Differential? What would you guys do? It' got 100k miles and I don't think it got its 100k mile servicing . Thanks

    Tran fluids and filter. Most people don’t do them even though it’s recommended to be done around 80k. After that, inspect spark plugs, then differential fluids.

    Front and rear diffs, coolant, trans fluid, power steering fluid, brake fluid, plugs, serpentine belt, cabin air filter, pcv valve, clean MAF and throttle body

    I would flush the ATF and replace ATF filter.
    Then the gear oil in diff’s, and transfer case if you have 4x4.
    Then flush out the coolant.
    Then flush the PS fluid.
    Then flush the brake fluid.
    Then check and remove the serpentine belt to check condition of the idler pulleys.
    The 05-06 models are known to leak oil from timing cover - check thoroughly.
    05-06 models are also known to develope cracks on frame around the motor mounts - check thoroughly.

    Change the PCV valve and vacuum hoses they are all cheap and easy to do.

    You’ll get many different opinions. I would change the plugs, then all the diffs, then serpentine belt, and then tranny fluid but that’s just me.

    All of the above is relatively easy DIY stuff that can be learned by searching this forum and YouTube and you’ll save a boatload of cash by doing it yourself. If you have questions, people on here will help...good luck.

    I wouldn’t do the trans filter, I’ve seen horror stories while replacing trans filters, you’ll be fine just replacing the ATF.

    Also, measure what drains out of the trans and put that much back in, it’s easy to overfill, example 5 qts drains out and you read the manual it says it holds 10 which you put in you’ve just overfilled your trans by 5qts.

    Don't forget about the Cabin filter. Don't overpay or pay someone else to to it...

    Same as everybody else...
    My local dealership wanted 65 bucks to change the CAF. I buy OEM filters on Amazon for 16 bucks and change it every Spring.Takes like 15 minutes

    The fear is snapping off one or more of the bolt heads holding the transmission pan. The older the truck the greater the risk.

    Yes, if you over-torque. I’ve never broken an oil or tranny pan bolt. That being said, I believe tranny pan bolt torque is 50 in-lbs on our Tacos, yet its 32 in-lbs on all my other Toyota products which have same size bolts and same gauge pans. So I did 32 on my Taco and have not had any leaks or loose bolts, which I checked 3 times, during subsequent oil changes.

    I would change/flush all fluids in the truck.

    Also change the cabin air filter as well. Spark plugs. Battery if the terminals are corroded.

    I think I’m going to take my truck into my neighbors shop tmw and have him change the trans oil and the fuel filter and possibly the serp belt. Is the diff oil more important to change than the serp belt ? Which of the two would you change ? I’m on a limited budget

    You should be able to find aftermarket filters for $6 to $8 on Amazon. I just got a charcoal filter for $8. Honestly, OEM isn't necessary for the cabin air filter.
