broke one of these yesterday when I was fixing the rear bumper gap on my truck. these sonar sensor clips are very fragile. called my local dealer and they only want to send me a whole new sensor for $235. I don't need the whole sensor, just this retaining clip. please help if you can...IMG_4319.jpg

Two other members just broke theirs in the last couple of days, adjusting their bumpers. Browse thru threads, I will look also. I think they got them on Amazon Tundra replacement part much cheaper. Hopefully they will chime in and answer.

Update: The $20 parking sensor has been in place since January and has given me ZERO issues or errors. The sensor is still being held by it's flimsy POS clip with half broken tabs. I have not gone off-roading or mudding, when I do I suspect it may fall off. I'll then modify the Tundra retainer clip for a more permanent fix.

I know I am repeating myself but what cheap and flimsy plastic clips these use. They remind me of the extra plastic you used to see around the edges of cheap plastic toy soldiers, you know, the extra material left over from the molding process.

The funny thing is, not even these cheap toys have that flimsy plastic anymore yet they are used on an exterior component of our trucks!

    great to hear! thank you!

since you have some experience with the Tundra clips, do you think this one would work? #89348-34020 seems like it may be made better than what we have now?

That is the one I bought but never tried to use it. I think it will work, I just haven't tried using it.

What happened was that I ordered both the $20 sensor and the Tundra part # 89348-34020 on the same day but the sensor came in a earlier. So I went ahead and installed the sensor with its crappy retainer clip and broke a bunch of tabs in the process. I really thought it would fall off and I would have to wait until the other part was delivered and then swap it out ...but the darn thing has not fallen off. LOL. As soon as it falls off I will try placing the sensor inside the the Tundra retainer.

I too will be buying the Tundra sensor with retaining clip. but I am going to buy 2 or 3 of the other clips too just in case.

believe it or not I was actually able to superglue my broken one back together and get it snapped back into the bumper. I haven't put it back on the truck yet and installed the sensor but I will tomorrow. I am very skeptical that it will stay together. I honestly can't believe that we have to buy a whole sensor just to get these plastic clips...talk about a waste.

Why don't you just buy the Tundra clip first for less than $10 and give it a try? I needed a whole new sensor or else that's what i would have done.

I just took a few photos. I also measured it with my calipers and the interior diameter seems to be a 1mm more (15mm vs 16mm). I still think it would work. You may also need something internally to wedge it inside the tundra clip. Maybe...maybe not. I think I threw my old broken sensor away so I can't check. Regardless, the Tundra piece has more meat to it so it would be easier to finagle something into fitting in it.

Regardless of the route you take, let me know for sure how it goes for you.

is the outside diameter the same? I like the fact that it has metal spring clips instead of cheap plastic that will break off really easily. 1mm is not too much of a difference, 4 hundredths of an inch. maybe that would work better?

could you also measure the depth (height) of it if you don't mind? I am just overly curious now...

may be able to 3d print a bushing but overall, man, I've have seen some flimsy crap before but that on a vehicle that is a popular offroader is among the worst. Probably better to design a complete beefier holder but this may work. probably print it in Nylonpark bushing.jpg

well, the one I broke and super glued back together broke as soon as I snapped it in place. I am going by my dealer in the morning, they have several different retainers in stock they said we could look at and see if we can make something work. if not, I will just order the whole sensor from Amazon for $20.
