Spicer xc OEM carrier bearing alternative (4wd ONLY)

    I wanted to post this thread to share a cheaper, and IMHO a better alternative to the oem carrier bearing. The spicer xc 211590-1x carrier bearing is the same as the IEDLS carrier bearing except it is rubber, not poly. This is a great alternative between the softness of OEM, and the firmness of the poly bearing. The carrier bearing is only 25-30$

    Materials needed.
    - spicer xc 211590-1x carrier bearing
    -two 10mm x 1.25 bolts
    -3’ piece of 1” square tube for spacers
    -piece of 1/8-3/16” 1.5”-2” width steel

    The square tube is used as spacers to bring the carrier bearing down.
    The plate is used to enclose the carrier bearing
    The size of your spacers used will be different depending on how tall your rear lift is.

    Overall I am extremely happy with this carrier bearing and it is performing awesome.

    I’m running Dakar springs on my truck. At first I tried 2” and had some vibes. The shaft wasn’t straight.
    Now I have 2.5” spacers and the shaft is straight and I don’t have any vibes

    Put over a thousand miles so far and it’s doing VERY good. Feels so much better than OEM garbage !

    Best 30$ upgrade yet.

    Did you use a digital angle meter to measure the shaft? U joints need a bit of angle in them to work the grease around. Other than that looks great and sounds like I need an upgrade!

    No I just matched what I had before and eye balled it. I’m not too sure what you mean about the angle ? The shaft needs to be straight to prevent take off vibes.

    I'm trying to decide whether to use this bearing or the IEDLS. I already bought the IEDLS, but I'm underwhelmed. The poly support is very narrow and the bracket seems flimsy. I was planning on welding in additional support to give it some axial strength. The XD appears to be considerably more substantial, both in the bracket and the bushing. I will probably get one and see what I think.

    the C/L to mount surface for the stock bearing is .244" (measured to the bottom of the mounting flange)
    the C/L to mount surface the the XD is 1.940" (measured to the TOP of the mount flange)

    That should yield an offset from stock of about 1 9/16". Add whatever drop shims you already need to that.

    The shafts should be .5 to 1 degree different to provide even wear of the u-joints.

    I was also under the impression that the first section of the driveshaft was meant to be at 0 degrees, and the more you lower it, the more new vibes you start to introduce at higher speeds.

    The first u joint should be close to 0, the bearings inside the caps need a bit of movement to stay lubricated. If it was meant to be a perfect zero there wouldn’t be a u joint there

    Well it’s not 100% straight. I could go a tad lower to be more straight. I had the carrier bearing higher up but the vibes were bad

    DO NOT USE THIS CB IF YOU ARE A 2WD TRUCK!!!



    OP are you 2wd or 4wd, hard to tell if you have a slip joint after the carrier bearing.

    I’m super happy with it. I like that it stay has play since it’s rubber, yet not as firm as poly

    It has already taken some 4lo abuse

    cool deal. Yeah because it doesnt allow the driveshaft to move nearly as much forward n back it wont work on the 2wd as the 2wd (prerunner) trucks do not have a slip joint after the CB, they have a slip yoke at the trans so the whole shaft moves through the cb and in and out of the trans.... kinda wacky.

    A thing or two...
    I'm running the IELDS bearing. I lined up the bearings on my old bearing and the IELDS and measured 2.25" as the difference between the factory bearing mounting surface and the top of the mounting ear on the IEDLS. I don't have any vibes.

    I'm running the IELDS bearing on my prerunner. I've got over 1000 miles on it so far.

    do you understand how the driveline moves on the prerunner as suspension cycles with the lack of the slip joint after the CB?

    Id bet you would be disgusted with how much you are bending that CB / crossmember during suspension cycling if you took video of it.

    The whole reason the stock CB is so floppy is to allow forward and backward movement of the prerunner driveshaft through the CB mount via the deflection of the rubber doughnut.

    All the usual diesel truck mods- fuel system upgrade, programmer, CAI, intake manifold, j hooked waste gate
    X2- shaft needs a small amount of angle either vertically or horizontally. In some cars the engine is slightly offset off center or diff is offset.

    I’ll throw a angle finder but I know for a fact they aren’t 100% the same angle.

    I still do have SOME take off vibes but it’s light years better than stock. I had horrible vibes with any spacer Under 2”

    The 2.5” puts me at just over stock
