So I’ve been trying to figure out why the bottom of my engine was covered in oil and I think I found the culprit. I degreased it with some purple power and came out to my truck this afternoon. I turned it on let it run for a few minutes then I saw the trickle of oil coming from behind the crank shaft pulley.

Can you guys confirm that that’s what the issue is and how I can fix it so I don’t cause any damage to the crank or the engine itself. Thanks

    How many miles?

I'll guess a front main seal leak.

Only 33,000 Miles. I’ve read that if you fill the engine with to much oil it causes this. But I’ve only had the dealership change my oil since I’ve owned it. I also off-road allot with the truck and go through the occasional mud puddle or water crossing, I don’t know if that’d effect it or not.

dang 33k miles and you need a front main seal. check your oil right now. It's alot of work to change a front main seal. I would drive it unless its leaking really bad like a quart a week

so it's not way overfilled? I take back my previous statement. It doesn't look like that hard of a job. I would fix it

I replaced my rear driveshaft pinion seal and it looks like basically the same concept.

If you can do a pinion seal you can do this front main seal. Just get the right puller kit to remove the balancer

    Nope.

I know your photo certainly leads us to the front seal conclusion.

But is there any chance the leak starts above that point. IE with a good light and close inspection, is there any oil higher on the front of the motor?

33k is quite unheard of for a front seal. Not impossible, but certainly unusual. I'm hoping it's from something higher up, like a valve cover gasket, and what you are seeing from underneath is misleading. :fingerscrossed:
