So I was reading the latest issue of Car and Driver I received the other day, and they had an article about the new Ranger Raptor that was released at the Thailand Auto show. Then went on about all the cool features it shares with the F150 Raptor, and kept mentioning how it was so much better than its GM counterparts. Not once did the article mention the Tacoma. Thought that was sort of interesting as the TRD Pro I would think would be the closest competitor.

It doesn't talk about any competitor, just how it stacks up against the lower trim level and the full size.

Probably because the TRD Pro is pretty much just some stickers and nicer shocks, there’s nothing special about them. The Raptors are actually quite a bit different trucks than the standard F150s.

Not confirmed officially, but most likely. If it's the same price as the ZR2 and the Pro but comes with an upgraded power plant it could do some serious damage

My bad, I didn't read all the way through the online article, in the print version it compared to the GM twins, but never mentioned any Tacoma info.

I would prefer the 3.2 TD they use in the Transit to a 2.0 TTD, but still, either motor will trounce the low-end torque production of the Tacoma. I think Toyota is going to finally need to do something in response. Unlike the GM clones, that Ranger is a handsome truck, especially the Raptor so looks won't be holding people back like it does with the GM twins.

Ford's not gonna pay for a hype article just so the reader can be reminded of how the Ranger isn't a Tacoma.

Looks badass and sounds like a heck of a powertrain. I bet it'll sell like hotcakes.
