Dumb Question: Will toppers (shells, caps, etc) from other trucks fit my Taco?

I'm thinking of adding a topper (or at least that's what I've grown up hearing them called--it seems like they also get called caps, camper shells, and probably more) to my 2005 Tacoma. I'm looking for something used because I'm a cheapskate and I'm wondering: do I need to specifically be searching for one from a 2nd Gen Tacoma? Or are these things more "universal "fit?" Like would something from an S-10, a Ranger, an 1st Gen Tacoma, etc still probably fit my truck?
