Well that's a whole different deal.

I'm not saying it will never be cheeper to get a second rig, just suggesting people do the math rather than just assume it will be cheeper.

Biggest factor for a 2nd DD is to keep useless miles off the rig you beat on during the weekends. And it allows you to not feel super rushed when working on the rig. Can be on jackstands as long as you want.

This is why I am saving for a dd, and really for what most of us do to our trucks, should be a good motivating factor.

Yeah I know I'm not saving any money on gas or anything (wanting something a little faster or a 2wd 2nd gen single cab  ) it's more of letting my rig sit and not get miles on it. Plus having to be rushed to finish a job because I have work on Monday.

It was so nice taking a week and a half to do my rear axle seal because I was borrowing my buddies car. Heck I even installed some things as it sat

Worth it in tires alone for me. Ive only had 2 sets of Tires on Frankenstein since it became a rig in 2012. About to put on the 3rd set. 35'' tires aren't cheap so makes sense there for me.

that and Frank's broken...all the time...

This VVV because its not just $ at the pump. Its wasted highway miles on my truck and wearing away parts I dont want to wear out so fast. I have saved over 30k miles on my truck already and allowed me to be on jack stands for 6 months while I linked it, well worth it to me

Very true, there's also that. I've been pretty lucky that anything I've broken on the trail has been fixable the same day, or not so critical that I couldn't keep using it until it got fixed. But I can only stretch that luck so far

It's not often I get to post about someone else's build but after a great day with @Digiratus, @drr, and @Speedytech7, how could I not? Hope you enjoy this Mike; would have put it in your build thread, if you had one...

Shop Day - The Red Head's Rack
"I feel sorry for anyone who needs a cam bolt sleeve in the Seattle area this weekend." said Mike,
as he and Zane walked in the door a little after 4:30pm. See, they'd just driven
a 50-mile loop to get every last one they could find - since we were in the process of destroying
    all four of Mike's.

But we are way ahead of ourselves.

Tacoma is for me the DD daily driving, like you said not budget to keep up 3 cars when only 2 at home, let's say one breaks the other person can give you ride and \ or a co-worker or Uber for 1 or 2 days that your truck may be down at the shop.
you also wrote "Don't forget to add in insurance, taxes and licensing. In most cases you need to drive a ton of miles to even break even" add to that keeping record of oil changes, air pressure, tire rotation, car washes, the inconvenience of having the extra rig Space and\or on the way, double set of the " I forgot the fricking keys!", Garage opener not on the spare car when you need it, time for the inspections, etc, keep adding to the list, so , saying that I sold my beloved yaris 08 with 84K on it $5,100 , great 1st. new car I got.

Drive Tacoma, don't be afraid of putting more miles on it, it's your Dino, she won't complaint about it.

Every. Fuckin'. Toyota truck I've owned! Just found out I need to cut off the cam bolts on my Tundra. SMH!

I honestly think greasing these cam bolts should be part of the 30k maint program!

No one lives by me that could give me a ride..uber isn't even a thing here.

Insurance is ridiculously cheap on an older vehicle. Just put liability on it. Registration, well..okay i can cheat as MT has a lifetime registration and its like 180 bucks for a tacoma. Maintaining another truck isn't that fun, but not that bad.

I DD a tacoma still. Best of both worlds.

Doesn't make sense to you obviously. But does for others and myself. Im willing to bet you live in a more urban area so you can do that, I certainly can't in the very rural area I live in. And I'd bet you don't do the same things with your rig that I do to mine so you don't seen the need. there is a very distinct line to me from a DD/weekend warrior truck and a full time rig.
