It looks great! I did not like the skinny 8mm rod, and made an adapter to sleeve it out to 13 mm and accept any of my Mustang billiard ball knobs:

Awesome post @Hippiglass ! Looks great! The shift knob is my only mode- switched the leather knob from my ‘07 OR. Didn’t like the plasticity feel of the ‘15. Might just cut the thread down too

Very nice OP. I had switched out my knob couple years back and didnt like how high it looked. Never thought of threading more of the rod and cutting it down. It didnt have threads but set screws instead which I didnt like. After seeing your post, I hollowed out the bottom and epoxied a m8 1.25 nut inside. Now it sits right and stays tight. Good job.20180328_204257.jpg

Has anyone shortened the shifter AND swapped to the 3rd gen knob? I wanna see what it looks like. Kinda feel that the bulkier knob of the 3rd gen would look weird but hard to tell without seeing it done.

Thats nice love the billard ball. Just shortening the shaft and using the factory knob is just dumb though in my eyes.

Sometimes subtle changes like that makes a big difference in some peoples eyes . With minimum amount of work done made a huge improvement in my eyes even with the stock knob . OP

I love this thread. Thank you very much. I did this mod to my truck and love the look and height of the shifter now. I had trouble getting the die past the thicker area.. so I used a M9 x 1.25 die to cut down first and then followed up using the same M8 x 1.25 die to cut the finally threads. I found this to be easier for me and just wanted to pass on this information.
