My gun has like an 8" rubber hose so I can bend it a little around stuff to get it on. It's just a cheapo one i bought from Amazon.

    rear shaft or front shaft?

my front shaft gets neglected a bit. rear one, I make sure the zerks are in the right place, right angle to get to them, have to move the truck a few times sometimes to rotate to right spot. I use a flexable hose gun. front shaft spins freely to rotate zerks into right place (I am sure you know this)

    stuff
That one is a pain in the ass. I usually put the tires up on something to get a little more room to work with, do the other 4, drink a beer, then go at that one. I have read that a gun with a hard metal line and/or a needle tip makes it a bit easier

It’s hard the first time. It’s pretty easy after that.

I only bought a $5 flexi hose from ebay to go onto my regular sized greased gun, then threw away the hard line hose. Works fine. I wasn't spending $25+ on a new grease gun and more on those mini-grease packs, which btw aren't available everywhere. The hose slips right past the 'armor' plate for the front drive shaft, and I can hit the zerks on the rear drive shaft without putting the truck up on stands.

Separately, this should allow me to grease my JD tractor cutter spindles and frame articulation points more frequently as well.

Honestly, not sure. But I'm able to grease my entire (admittedly first gen) drive-line with it, no problem.
