Hey all, I know this question has been asked multiple times but there is so much info and so much to read that a newb like me just gets in the weeds.

I just got my first truck (Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4) and am looking to do some modifications.

I’m thinking that a 3” lift would be good for me because it’s not drastic and I’m not going crazy off roads...yet. Plus, I like my rims and tires and don’t really want to replace them if I can help it.

That said, I’m also looking to get performance and not just aesthetic gains from the lift. I see price ranges from $300-$3000 and have minimal idea why the differences are there. Let’s start with reputable equipment and go from there. Any input is appreciated

Would fox be overkill for what I’m looking for? I saw them and Icon stage 3 for about $1k less than fox. Cost is something of a consideration haha. I’d be spending more time on a road than off so I’m still looking at performance there while being confident in the off road ability

Is it just me, or are most of these kits less than 3” lift? I’m seeing a lot that only give 2” or maybe 2.75” if lucky.

As a noob here, does anyone have a reason to choose a 2” over the 3”?

Lift too high and you start putting excessive angles on the CV axles.

Slee Offroad got 3" out of my modified Icon Stage III setup, they said it's all about getting the right UCAs to achieve enough caster. I have forged SPC UCAs, they're not expensive (comparatively speaking).

    My caster's set at 3.7°.

I don't have any real world experience with icon so I will chose not to comment.

I do however know for a fact that ADS makes a damn nice product through and through.

    Just trying to help!

I can respect that. I just didn’t want to have to keep asking questions about coilover weights and leaf springs haha. I can give them a call too and harass them with my basic new guy questions

Lol!! I'd just ask as many questions as you need and don't worry about anybody getting irritated over that.

It's your hard earned money and YOUR truck!

I would however suggest calling Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road for the best pricing and customer service.

    Good luck and happy lifting!

Fox’s are awesome for their price range. Right in the middle. Little more than Bilsteins and no where close to Kings and ADS’s.

Otherwise, assuming I chose the ideal parts for what I want, this is definitely more affordable for me. I’m not going to be getting air or speeding around the trails. Slow and steady but enough to have fun

What made you go with Icon over the others? Curious as I'm looking for new suspension as well.
