1st. the place needs some serious cleaning up. i think they should park several dumpsters there and ask for a public clean up effort. i would go with a pitchfork and snow-shovel.

having said that: i went yesterday. it was okay!! several other were there but everyone was very considerate and safe. we would call out range hot or cold as needed..zero pushback.

the road up is beaten up! i am glad i have a tacoma 4x4. there are some giant mystery depth puddles along the way. big ruts!!
shooting is always fun. i shot my pellet rifle and .22 rifle. i was hitting posted up clay pigeons at 128 very consistently.

    weekdays only.

My mother used to live in Redwood Valley. We used to head up there when I would visit. It’s been about two years but I can imagine it hasn’t been cleaned, ever.

Did some cleanups up there and at Pine Flatts (before it was deemed Private Property) with CalGuns, we'd take out a couple trailer loads of trash each time and like 2 days later the places were trashed again.

Also you must've gotten lucky, normally Cow Mountain has some weirdos up there doing dumb shit, like shooting propane tanks, or using clearly illegal firearms.

If you don't mind making the trek all the way to Ukiah to shoot there's Ukiah Gun Club.

I also used to do some running around in Hidden Valley and Middletown back in the day.

I didn’t want to be the one to say it but, yes there is some strange characters back up in Cow mtn. Usually drunk people doing drunk things.

Haha yeah, usually it's not so much the drunk people I'm worried about, the other 'impaired' people are more concerning.

I'm new to this area, just moved up here last September, luckily HVL being gated keeps most of that stuff at bay.

So true. Gotta be careful up there too.

I believe I still have cousins in HVL but they would be much younger than me. Im originally from Napa and we had family move up there in the late 90’s. I spent a lot of teenage years running around up there doing all kinds of stupid stuff haha. Lots of good times in HVL, Middletown, and Cobb. I would imagine the gates are much more secure than they were 20 years ago. There used to be back ways in where there were no gates. One south, and one North of the main gate.

Spent a lot of time all over that area many years ago. I have no desire to go up there now. The people you find up there often are tweekers, druggies, low life’s and other strange life forms. If I go there I go armed but I really don’t want to go. And I definitely don’t want to be around people as mentioned in possession of and handling firearms. Just my 2 cents worth.

Isn't that the place where somebody's Tacoma got shot up a few years ago?
