I have an 07 4.0 with 145,00 miles on it. Great truck, 4.0, paid for, looks great, no problems. My coworker purchased a 2018 TRD OR last weekend. For those of you that have a 3rd gen and came from a 2nd, would you do it again. I really like his truck, just hoping to get your opinions about the matter. Thank you.

I went from a 1st Gen, to 2 - 2nd Gens, and then my current 3rd Gen and yes I would buy again. I suggest that you get an extended or overnight test drive to see if you like it.

shakerhood, I drove my buddies around. I wanted to trade overnight but no go. His truck almost drove itself. Thank you for your response.

I recently traded my 2006 SR5 DCLB for a 2018 OR DCLB. There was nothing wrong with my 06, it had 122,000 miles on it. I just wanted a new truck with some updated technology. I didn't have Bluetooth or even an auxiliary port in my 06. I loved my 2006, but I love my 2018 equally as much so far. I would buy the 2018 over again. I haven't had any problems with it so far.

The mouth, thank you. I thought I might get flamed with this question, but the above answers have helped me to decide to at least continue with my analysis. Thanks again.

I personally feel its a poor decision, cause fuck a truck payment. 2nd gens are solid.

Would have been a lot cheaper to just upgrade the radio, than the whole truck, and keep your proven reliable 2nd gen.

The interior of the 2nd gen is so ugly I was really happy the day I got my 3rd gen. No looking back for me.

I would have to say no I wouldn't. I had a choice to but either one. My 07 prerunner was stolen, I chose new vs old because I have a used car policy. Don't buy one! That's my issue.... hindsight I would have bought a 14 or a 15. Although I have ridden in a couple of other 3rd gens and it may be my imagination, but they seem to drive better and feel better than mine. Then again I don't ride in my own passenger seat, like ever. Lol

Do you need to know, or care?
I went from 2nd Gen to 3rd Gen, tech and style is why I did it. It does drive differently and takes a while to adjust. Test drive one and decide for yourself, but I'm happy. Yes I would do it again.

This isn't a complete apples to apples comparison but...

Went from a 2011 SR5 AT to a 2017 Sport MT. I had no intention of trading in the SR5 but I needed something that pulled a trailer better, and my 3rd gen certainly does that. But I think the 2nd gen drove better than the 3rd gen.

In a perfect world, I'd have kept both. They're both amazing vehicles... hands down the best I've ever owned.

But after 150k miles the little things start to add up then nickel and dime you. Proven reliability starts to chisel away as each month the +10 year old parts get older.

Seat lose support, rubber seals degrade, shocks and leafs need replacement, AC compressor may go out, plastics become brittle, stale smells.... after awhile you get the urge to move on to a refresh and get another 150k miles of reliability.

I know, I've had two Toyota's for 13+ years and have seen them age. You get the, desire for something different and the old running truck just doesn't do it anymore.

I traded my 2011 Ford Ranger 4x4 Sport for a 2015 Tacoma SR5 AC 4x4. I really liked the Ranger, bought it new. I only got rid of it because it was starting to rust and i got a great deal on the 2015 as it was the end of the model year and the 3rd Gens were just coming out. I liked the 2015,but I really like the 2017. The I saw the 3rd Gen,I had to have it. It was the interior that sold me,I like it much better. I traded my 2015 V6 SR5 for a 2017 SR I4 manual. I'm very happy.
