It's tough. I've been tempted to jumpstart the process by finding a vehicle already built but not exactly what I want. But, I'm bearing down. I'll make it!

Had the MBRP stainless single side exit, sounded awesome at first - great on startup and while accelerating. I have full sound deadening in vehicle (CLD, Foam and MLV) and the drone cruising at 45 and highway speeds got on my nerves. Had a shop weld in a Borla muffler (same one as the TRD) and tip, much quieter but sounds similar to the MBRP while accelerating - little to no drone and the tip looks better welded on. ~130 for labor and tip and bought the muffler myself for $100. Cheaper and more effective than the cat back.

The trd exhausts have always been an off the shelf muffler... bosal, and borla being used in the past.
Trd never made superchargers, they have reached out to magnuson, and alpine in the past iirc.

    Trd doesnt make intakes either.
K&n/aem, and afe have been used in the past.

The list goes on and on, trd makes contract deals and real manufacturers spit out the product with a trd stickar/stamp/etch/embossment.
Your paying a premium for marketing.

I researched a new exhaust. I looked at the TRD, MBRP, Magnaflow and Borla. I found the Borla on Amazon for $572. A little pricey but less than the TRD.

My main concern was the sound. I heard the MBRP and Magnaflow was a little “tin canny” and had a drone. I listened to You Tube videos. Pretty useless. Eventually I found a post about the URD Y-pipe and the Borla Cat back. (I cannot find it now). The Post talked about the kit and adding a resonator.

I ordered the Borla and installed it. They even gave me a Borla hat.

The install was easy and by the instructions. Very easy, especially with the KTI KTI54055 Exhaust Grommet Pliers.

Buy this tool. It removed the muffler hangers in about 20 seconds. I’m really glad to have it.

    ---------------------------------

First I soaped up the grommet. I drank ¼ of the water bottle, squirted some soap and shook it up. Then I popped a hole in the top and used it like a squirt bottle.

I squeezed some in the grommet where the pin was

Then I used the tool to pop it out. Simple…

I drove to around after the install and thought it was loud. I have noticed a gas mileage increase. I think it is mainly because of me noticing the RPM sound. When I rafe on it, the truck sounds like a race car. Real deep growl with no drone. It hits at about 3000 RPM and winds loud at 5500. I’m happy. More to come on the performance, I have the Intake Flow Accelerator and air filter from the TRD Air Intake. Its TRD Pro'd out

At less than 3000 there is little to no sound. The HOA is happy too. Although, they did hit me up for major maintenance of a vehicle in my driveway. 30 minute install…come on.

I still need to take the missus out. If mamma ain't happy...then nobody is happy.

I wouldn't change either one. Catback is a really expensive muffle. About 3/4 of the time people do not like the sound that they just dropped a bundle on.
You already have a cold air intake. If you think that small engine requires more air than that big filter can give it......buy away.
Unless you go into the engine and start making a lot more horses, I would not throw money at these bolt ons. 99% of bolt on's will make you go faster only because your wallet is lighter.
Your stock filter will do a better job a cleaning the air.
Unless you know and have a pacific exhaust that you have heard and rode in.....it's a crap shoot on if you're going to like it.
I'm not a big fan of bolt ons, you might have noticed.
I have a cammed C6 Z06 running about 640 to the engine. I have a true CAI, simply because C6 Vettes do not have a cold air system. I also have a better exhaust, simply because I needed it, but if you're stock you'll be a lot happier buying your wife, or girlfriend something nice with that money.

Addendum... After 2 weeks with my Borla Cat back, I'm stoked.

At first I thought it might be too loud. It does have a growl and rages over 4000 RPM. I has toned down and is quieter. This might be me getting use to it. It might be the cat back.

I am now getting 21 MPG on the highway...whohoo. If I rafe on it I can see my instant MPG meter drop like a stone. Its like an on...off switch for MPG. When I let off, it goes all the way back up. I drive 30 miles on the freeway to work and get 21 MPG at 65 to 80 MPH, cruising speed.

In traffic and and grocery trips I'm still getting 21 MPG. Driving to my moms in the country...13 MPG. It's a curvy country road, floored all the way.

    I love this mod.

I've been getting 17 to 18 driving like granny. I think that is the norm for Gen 3. At least that's what I've seen here.

That's probably why there is so many MPG threads.
