    Mariried with 4 kids.

I’m a big fan of Qapital. Rounds up purchases out of my main checking to the next $2. Deposits a couple times a week into a separate savings account. Additionally pulls a growing dollar amount each week ($1 first week, $2 second week, etc).

Paid for sliders and full steel skids this way without any impact on our household budget. Currently saving for a new road bike for my wife and a Scotland trip.

I will say I haven’t figured it out. But I assume it’s the no kids thing. I have 2 kids. I pay $1300/mo to send them to daycare two days a week (so not even fulltime). Plus $300/mo for health insurance. Plus my daughter needs PT 2x/wk so that’s $400 in copays per month. That’s $2000/mo directly attributed to my kids and we haven’t even started talking about food, clothes, and other things they need. So in closing, I’m a broke ass man. I started a company making some of the shit I couldn’t afford.

A couple things - you hit on an important point that a couple others have. Work harder. Or better: work smarter harder. Push. Grind. Sacrifice for your goals.

Also, glad my sliders and (soon) skids are @Mobtown Offroad.

I'm still convinced you're a lady of the night to pay for all this.

I have 3 kids, but no childcare because wife works nights and weekends and I work weekdays. I take a draw just big enough to pay for my personal hard bills (mortgage, utilities) and the income from my wife covers groceries, clothes. Because of this we are able to have insurance through the state for a reasonable price.

I live below my means IMO, very cheap mortgage, house is furnished from parents and inlaws that upgrade and giveaway, pick up odd jobs doing contracting in my spare time. Also, I drive a 2002 4Runner that I paid $400 for so... And went with one of the cheapest lifts and tires I could afford from side jobs. Armor I designed and built so our cost which still isnt cheap.

What most dont realize is what it cost to start a business like this. Fabrication equipment, material, commercial shop space, employees is crazy expensive. No lenders are giving out money to new, small businesses either. If we are in the red each month it was a darn mirscle. @jowybyo and I built this business from nothing with $500 per person invested and promise to pays with a couple vendors. We also didnt take draws for the first 2 years and did this at night and on weekends, while working careers and having families. Lots of sacrificing. Ask any small business owner and they'll all tell you this is not as fun as people think it is haha.

That sounds pretty interesting. I'm going to check this out. It sounds like saving without even knowing/feeling it.

I use stash app and acorns for savings. Similar round ups occur from my checking. The lady and i have no plans for kids so no issues there. My 06 is paid for an my mortgage is reasonable. Good discussion so far!

Good job and smart financial decisions. My wife and I have moved 3 times in the last 5 years because of the equity to be made in real estate. We have a daughter that will be 3 next month and I agree with everyone else here that has kids, they're expensive! My wife works part time and our daughter goes to daycare 3 days a week and it's still over $1000/month.

And the only debt we have is our mortgage which is definitely higher than i'd like but easily doable. We will be living much more comfortably once my wife goes back to full time. My truck and her 4runner are completely paid off too.

I work in the public school and have two kid, I don't mod.

We have had a set amount to go towards our vehicle payments, because I was able to get good financing and equity when trading in my 09, my payments are under that amount, the rest goes in a savings account.

^ this. It's crazy how much money you can save if you just start packing your lunch, making your own coffee, eating at home etc. I still go out occasionally but I've reigned it way back and I can see the savings$$ not to mention it's generally healthier

This is "great" advice.......Get a good education, generally jobs requiring academic credentials pay a lot more than those that don't. If you follow Bill's advice, maximize your income, invest wisely, and don't limit your income potential because you (or your spouse) can't leave the "hood", (or the city or the state), you'll find that the OP's question answers itself.
