    Yes.

It's stretch characteristic will ease the shock load on the towed vehicle.

It is really preferred to tow with a dynamic ("snatch") line than a static line (such as a chain.)

I have a Come Up snatch block. Only used it one time to flip a rolled 4runner back on its wheels but it worked. Rated for 30,000lbs and solid piece of metal.

    Hello!
I just purchased the warn vr8-S winch and purchased the 92097 5K snatch block to go with it.. i'm getting mixed messages about combining these.
Here's my understanding and logic: I use the 8K winch with the 5K snatchblock doubling the winch pulling power, and i'm only winching a vehicle that's 3.5K. To my knowledge, this is perfectly fine because the 5K snatchblock is still within it's capacity pulling this small truck.

But some tell me that I need to match my ratings so i would need a higher rated snatch block to go with this winch. the 5K snatch block from warn was $60. the 12K one is double that and i was already reaching with the first so i'm not jumping to switch.

Anyone here want to weigh in on this? I'd love more input OR the RIGHT answer. Is my logic wrong?

    Thanks!

It’s only reduced by 50 percent if the pull is at 180 degrees. The lower the degree of the pull, the closer to the full load is put on the block. In your case, I would spend the money on a snatch block that at least meets the load capacity of your winch, maybe even higher. It’s only peoples lives on the line.

You need to remember that you have to factor in everything about the situation.

What grade, are tires rolling, is it stuck, are you pulling it over something.

Pulling a 5k pound vehicle across level packed dirt has very little to do with pulling a 5k vehicle uphill on rocky ground with one flat tire.

The soft shackles that 7P was demonstrationing with and sell with them had a 40k break rate.

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
If you’re using a 2:1 mechanical advantage, the block needs have a working load limit twice the winch capacity. An 8k winch can pull 16k with 2:1 rigging, so the block, shackle, and strap need to have a WLL of at least 16k. Your weakest link should be the winch itself. The motor should stall before anything breaks.

I really like those snatch rings. If I had a lathe I’d crank out a couple of my own. Very cool.

Anyone considered an arborist’s x-rigging ring? I wonder if it’s strong anough.

Given that I don't plan on doing any real super hard core off-roading, and that I didn't want to incur the added weight and substantial expense due to worse gas mileage, suspension and bumper upgrades needed for a built in electric winch I purchased a Wyeth-Scott More Power Puller (https://www.wyeth-scott.com/models.php, 3 -ton with 35' AmSteel synthetic rope).
Anybody have experience using this or similar come a long vs. electric winch? It's a given that the process will be a little slower, but anything else to consider?

35’ is not that long. Personally I’d suggest at least a tow strap or better a winch extension there can be times where you’ll need to reach out 50-80 even 100’

It’s easy when you have too much. It’s difficult when you don’t have enough

I have 80’ on my winch, a 100’ synthetic extension, and a couple smaller extensions that equal about 60’. I’ve had to use every single piece of my kit to recover myself. So have extras. Not enough can be a big problem if you can’t reach anything.

With synthetic rope being so light keeping extensions has become just a matter of money and space.

Exactly. And it doesn’t take up much room. So it’s just a cost thing. Which is exactly why I buy bulk line and make my own extensions! 5/16” dyneema 98 cents/foot USD. did my winch line, extensions and and bunch of soft shackles.
