What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Replaced the fan clutch on my '03 3.4 PreRunner.

Tim does an excellent job of explaining how to remove / install and gives all the torque specs so I will not go into all that.

Replacement part is Aisin FCT-013 (it states on box...made in Japan).

What oil do you guys use on the 1st gens the last couple times I've been getting oil changed at the dealer cause I'm too lazy to do it myself.

 

I started using royal purple hmx 5w-30

 

Do our first gens have a cabin air filter?

 

No,

Also I use Valvoline Maxlife 5W-30 oil and a Wix filter

 

Wix is the way to go

 

I use Mobil 1 Full Syntentic 5W-30 along with an OEM YZZD1 Toyota Filter.

The Toyota filters have the most filter media, there's a guy on here who cut all the major oil filters open and the OEM filter won every time with the amount of filtering media.

I used to run Wix until I saw how little media it had and the quality of the materials on the inside

I read that thread too, pretty interesting about the filters. I use the same oil and filter.

 

Honestly I run Mobil 1 because it's the cheapest oil they sell at Costco. Lol.

Has a good reputation too, so why not. It's a lot better than the "Multi Flo" dino oil it had when I got it.

 

It is pretty dam cheap at walmart too, only thing I buy there. I hate that place.

 

Remind me WHEN we actually meet, to bring y'all steaks. Probably need to give Monte 3 just so he doesn't die from starvation lol

 

Ditto on oil and filter except I use the high mileage version since the truck has 165,000 miles. Not sure if the additives in high mileage actually do what they claim but I use it anyway.

Castrol GTX 5w-30 and a Toyota filter. If not Toyota, than a purolator or Napa filter. I've found Castrol oil is cheapest from Home Depot by a long shot, $10ish actually if compared to Autozone.

 

Same but 10w-30 and Yota filter
