Shifting out of park 2010 tacoma trd sport

When i went to leave work last night got in started truck stepped on the brake pedal. Grabbed the shifter nob could get it out of park grabbed with both hands and pulled got it out of park. Got home tried it again and was still sticking. When using both hands to get out of park it is almost like it is binding up. Any ideas on this?

 

Brake light switch

 

- Safety requires that the brakes are applied before the truck can shift out of Park.
- There is a electrically operated solenoid plunger that locks the gearshifter in place.
- Power to disengage the solenoid comes from the brake light switch.
- There is a emergency override button next to the shifter so you don't screw up your gear $hifter by yanking it back with two hands.
- Much of this information is in the owners manual.

Replaced the brake light switch that did nothing. Still not wanting to shift out of park with out forcing it. Next idea?

 

Check you solenoid plunger,it may be bad.

Take the shifter assembly apart, you'll find it

 

Ok that is what I figure but thought I had better verify.

 

I do believe if it were mine and the solenoid plunger went bad I would just remove it.

I drove automatics for decades without a solenoid lock on it.

 

kind of my thought if it will work with out just remove it.

 

When mine got hard to move I hit the ( I think it's called the neutral safety switch) with wd 40 and it loosened right up. It's on passenger side of transmission. Good luck

 

@Krusetj Well if you need a new shifter, I think I still have mine from a conversion I did. Pm me if need be.

 

Have you checked to see if your brake lights are working? If that fuse is blown, you will have lots of trouble getting out of park.

 

Going to check Brake lights to make sure they are working. Not sure what is going on because the traction control light is now on the airbag light is on and the check engine light. They all came on in the last 40 miles.

 

Gear selection sensor on trans .

 

This happened on my 4runner and it was the result of either a bad brake light fuse or the bulbs being blown. I just used the override until I got to the closest auto parts store...

 

Neutral start safety switch, Yes it is starting to look like it.

Get the codes read.

Just replaced mine about 3 weeks ago . 2008 with about 106000. Sensor was $253 That was the code
