I plan on getting some new wheels pretty soon and was wondering if I should get them offset, if so, how much in what direction? I have a 2017 TRD Sport and I believe the stock wheel have a +30mm offset. I plan on getting 265/70/17 tires and don’t want them to stick out of the fenders more than an inch. Don’t want to fling up rocks and dirt on the side of the truck. Any opinions? Keeping stock suspension also.

You won't need to change wheels with that size tire

Here's a basic visual to help you understand what offset is. It's just how far off from center line the wheel gets mounted. It goes hand in hand with the width of the wheel, and those two things are combined to figure out what back spacing is. A good look is an 8" wide wheel with 0 offset. Gives you a little poke without being crazy. Then if you ever want to upsize to 285s, the same wheels will work.

I don’t like the stock wheels. Going for the blacked out look.

One tire size can fit different wheel widths?

A 265/70r17 only fits 17 inch diameter wheels. But the wheel could be 7" wide or even 8" wide and the tire would still mount

That's why you also want to pay attention to backspacing if your going with a wider wheel

So let me see if I got this right. A negative offset pokes the wheels out and a positive offset tucks the wheels in.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I’m gonna take EatSleep’s advice and go with no offset and 8” wide. Gonna throw some Wildpeaks on and see what happens.

If you look at the tire manufacturer website, each tire and size will have an approved wheel width range. For example my 295/70r17 cooper mtp has a wheel width range of 7.5"-10" and I have it mounted on a 7.5" wide wheel.

Ok. My set up will be:
    Wheels: 17 x 8 no offset, 4.5 backspacing
    Tires: Wildpeaks 265/70/17.

FWIW, I have a 2016 Sport AC, with 265/70/17 Wildpeaks on 4Runner wheels with 1.25" spacers and it widens the stance slightly to about .5" sticking past the flares. Without the spacers it would be tucked. (Sorry don't have a profile pic but you can sort of see it doesnt stick out far)

Also, agree on the sport wheels. I wasn't a fan either.
