bought a 2015 brand new off the lot in April of 2015. At the 5k service they "fixed" an oil leak. At 15k they replaced the engine because they could not fix the problem. Took it in for 20k service and the same problem is presenting. Under CA Lemon law I do not technically qualify for some technicalities. I would like a replacement, any advice on my rights as a new truck owner? How should I go about this?

    Thanks

It's a mass produced vehicle, sometimes shit goes wrong. A new engine is not the end of the world. My '15 had a bad rod bearing at 10k miles, new short block put in. I would actually have preferred a whole new engine, but it seems fine. Worst part was driving a Rav4 for a few weeks. That's what the warranty is for, don't sweat it.

Warranty? 3 years or 36k miles... NOTHING should go wrong in ANY vehicle in that short time span. Even a 50k warranty is a joke. I'd call corporate and ask them for a free extended warranty for all your troubles. If nothing goes wrong, they don't lose a dime... and you get peace of mind.

I'd go above the dealer level. If my new 4Runner had this happen I'd be a little upset as well. Don't listen to the Toyota fan boys, this is unacceptable in any new vehicle. At least open a case with Toyota corporate.

I misread this the first time I read it, you're having the same problem again? You sure the same thing is leaking? Having the same thing leaking on a different engine seems very odd. It almost has to relate to something that didn't get changed, or was re-used.

Once warmed up it had a knock between about 1800 to 2600 RPM, noticed it when driving next to a concrete wall, almost sounded like a diesel.

When the engine was cold it sounded normal.

Lots of shady shit happens at dealerships, all the more reason to open a case with Toyota corporate.

5k service- during inspection found oil leak, resealed oil pan.

    10k service-no oil leak found

15k service- oil leak present upon multi point inspection. Checked and found rear main seal leak. Removed transmission and flex plate and found. Rank shaft leaking. Replaced short block.

17k miles- engine was rattling, returned truck for inspection, gear chain tensioner was torqued down, rattling ceased.

20k service- oil leak present, added dye, and I am taking it back in tomorrow am.

So it's been a problem since the first service. This is the 3rd attempt to fix the problem.

Guys.. anybody looking at a motor swap of any degree already has a case log with corporate. Any warranty repair work goes through corporate.

I would tell them I want a new truck. If they don't oblige then pursue the Lemon Law route thru an attorney....otherwise, this problem sounds like it will haunt you.

Keep in mind, you should be enjoying your new $35,000 truck, not dealing with this crap.
