I think my Tundra alternator and Odyssey battery should be able to power that. I think it draws the same power as my Warn ZEON Platinum 12k.

Yup, just researched that also. I think I'd be good then. My winch draws almost 400a at max load. The compressor would be under 200a.

 

I recommend a liquid CO2 system ( http://www.powertank.com/cat-off-road )
for around $400. Faster fill-ups, very quiet, and portable between vehicles.

Got my tank installed in the pasenger bedwall today. Now i need to run the line into the cab. I'd like to come straight forward and avoid crossing above the hot exhaust pipe before turning towards the hump until after entering the cab. Anyone have a link to the bare floor of an AC at the the back wall or know of a thread that has such?

 

Looking at getting a compressor for a beach trip over the summer but eventually make into an OBA system. Does anyone have any experience with the Smittybilt compressor or a Viair compressor they recommend? Everyone always seems to go right to ARB but they're on the expensive side compared to Smittybilt & Viair. I'm mainly planning on using the system for refilling tires, pumping inflatable items (tubes, rafts, etc.), bike tires, & re-pressurizing a WaterPort tank.

So far I'm looking at ARB Single or Smittybilt 2781. I haven't too far into Viair yet but, if there are recommendations I'm open. Looking at the 2 options I linked it seems to me that the Smittybilt vs ARB Single can run 10min longer (30/30 vs 40/20 duty cycle), fill faster(5.65cfm(unsure if @0 or ??psi) vs 3.08@0 & 2.34@29), & is a lot cheaper ($165 vs $275.50); the only real downside is that it's larger compared to the ARB (16.1 x 11.4 x 10.8" vs 4.9 x 9.1 x 9"). Also both can be mounted & hardwired so that's a wash; but, ARB does include the power wiring & a switch with it to be hardwired. So looking at this it seems like Smittybilt would be a better & cheaper option on paper but, if people have real world experience that the ~$100 difference in price is worth the upgrade I'll definitely consider it (quality > quantity).

I'm very satisfied with it. I haven't used it in years (since I just got out of the military, never had a chance while I was gone) but I remember it filled tires fast and even when mine were done it helped others out too

 

I posted long ago about figuring out how to mount my VIAIR 440P compressor... now I'm tinkering with the idea again, although this cubby compartment, perfect size and out of the way-wise... I feel like could be an issue in the wet weather since it's unprotected and directly above the rear mud flaps...

I would cut the top of the cubby and mount the compressor in there, leaving it exposed to the top:





Then this is the area that the cubby would be... my fear is that it'd be too exposed to water (I live in Seattle so it's always wet), and mud kick up (if I took off my rear mud flaps)

 

OBA v2...

Relocated everything because the 2nd battery is where the compressor used to reside. Moved the power steering reservoir a little to make more room.

Still an open system. Still planning on adding a tank/pressure switch to make it a closed system.

I used to have my compressor mounted in the cubby hole and it definitely is exposed to the elements. Mine got super muddy. Eventually ended up getting a Zenith compressor and mounted it in a toolbox, but now with the Vagabond Drifter, it'll go in one of the drawers I'm making. Starting to prewire it now



Only way I recommend putting in the cubby area is in a custom weatherproof box that takes the place of the plastic OEM cubby

 

Great bit of info before I started hacking away! My only concern with a box would be the heat from the compressor...

Maybe put small vents toward the rear of the box? Thats the area that’s least impacted by mud flinging up. Although it’ll still get exposed to some elements.

In the end my compressor was still working when I eventually sold it. Just dirty. There was one time where it stopped working altogether. Just for kicks I switched the power and ground wires and the thing started to go (in reverse). Then switched the power and ground back to the correct connection and it started to work just as normal. It was like it was seized or something (presumably by mud?). Then used it fairly regularly for the next few years without any issue.

 

I have a single arb in my cubby. I just leave the door off the cubby when the compressor is in use. I considered adding some vents and a small 12v computer fan to circulate the air but removing the door seemed way easier
