Hi all I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I have the push button start. I went on a road trip for spring break. About 9 hour drive. Toward the end of my trip I noticed that the key fob was not working correctly. It wouldn't unlock the door or lock the door on occasion. Also one time I noticed the no key detected flashing on the dash while the key was in the truck then it went away. Sense I have been home I have not experienced any issues on my short commutes. My battery on the fob is only a year old. On another note I learned that if your key fob battery is dead you can hold it up to the button then push and it will start with no battery.

I cant necessarily speak to this as mine has worked pretty well. My truck is almost two years old and I have not had to change the battery yet.

One thing I have wondered that you may have spoken to, is if your key fob does die. I had an old Nissan with push button start and if the fob battery died, there was a slot in the dash where you inserted the fob and it would function as normal. I had wondered what to do in these trucks. So youre saying hold the fob to the push button and it will fire even with a dead fob battery? Has anyone tried this to verify?

I haven't verified but its in the owners manual. I looked it up because I thought the key was about to die far from anything. Slowpoke did you ever try to take it to the dealer?

Batteries don't last long at all. I would replace mine for the Lexus yearly. If used daily, and if you leave fob in vehicle it cut's the life of battery faster.

No, I never took it to the dealer since the truck started and operated fine....just the remote locking/unlocking which was "moody" on those few instances. It was good to learn through TW that we could still start our trucks with a dead keyfob :)https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/smart-key-not-detected.512046/#post-16108215

Removed battery from fob and held upto push button per manual. Works. Wish it had a covered flip open old fashioned key ignition as a backup to the elec pushbutton. Esp. Whilst out in BFE.
