Several months back I installed these Philips 921 led's for the reverse lights. They worked fine. I was content. Other forum members that tried them-- some said they liked them, some didn't like them. Whatever. Let's not debate that here- that's been covered. Purchased from Amazon and they're still available for purchase there (continue reading below).

Well, I was just looking on amazon again at the above bulbs, and there was a link to a "newer version". So, I clicked and these bulbs came up. My question-- has anyone tried this newer version? Results??

All these big brand led 921 replacements are usually just as bright as the stockers. Since one uses reverse lights infrequently and for short periods of time the led "upgrade" is not necessary as the stock bulbs will likely last the life of the vehicle. If one wants an upgrade there are 12v halogen options that put out several times the lumens.

Many of these LEDs replacements just do not put out more light (lumens) than stock, and are really just a swapping light sources for longevity and color without upgrading real output. The previous Philips 921 LEDs are rated at 200 lumens, which is actually less than stock. Even brands that advertise massive LED lumen output increases often don't deliver. Not to mention the directional lighted LEDs in a 921 bulb are usually pointing to the side of the reverse housing (like the new Philips you posted), not front/back to maximize output of the reflector design on the reverse light, further reducing their effective output. I've done several quantitative tests using a light lux meter to compare.

    You might find this interesting.

Just a heads up for anyone running Depot taillights, these new Philips 921s DO NOT FIT. I didn't realized the previous owner replaced the taillights, since it looked stock.

I went with these LASFIT T15 LED reverse light replacement. https://www.ebay.com/itm/323034446430.

I replaced mine because the original ones were really weak, and so these ones were a huge improvement over the LED I had above. I will likely try crashnburn80's method in the future.

The Gy6.35 HIRs will put those LEDs to shame.

I don't doubt that, I needed a quick fix. These were easy, without having to adjust anything.

For anyone curious, the LASFITs looked like these attached.
