Whatever you like, but you need no more than 4.0” backspace to keep the tire off the frame. 3.5” would be a good choice too.

ProComp is one of the few wheel manufacturers that makes a 16” wheel in a 4” BS for a reasonable price.

I have been looking at some but everything is in a 16x8. I swear I read somewhere to get a 16x7 wheel to use with the 255/85/16 for airing down purposes so it doesn't slip the bead. I am just looking for a sub $100, matte black, non-steel wheel. I have steel wheels currently on my truck now, and want to shed some weight with the new tire/wheel combo.

You might be able to find some from American Racing. I know they make 15x7 in the AR172. So they might make 16x7 as well.

You’ll be fine with an 8” wheel. I beat mine at 15 psi regularly. Never lost a bead.

Mine are some old 4.0” BS x 8” pro comps that aren’t made anymore. SCS makes some in a 3.5” x 8”, but will be more spendy.

I like the look! I’m thinking about going 883’s on mine. Is your front end level?

3" ome lift 883. Fnfx pros.
The front is about 1/2 inch higher. Im still using my stock leaf spring with an aal in the back so with a fresh leaf pack in the back I'm sure It would be nearly dead on.

oem steel wheels (just like your spare) for your truck and earlier are the only 16x7 that I could find. If you look you can find all 4 for a decent price. Grabbed mine for 100.00

No illusion. They are kind of in there. I want to run a 255/85/16 as to avoid any type of trimming, or the CMC (cab mount chop), etc etc. Just looking for the best possible wheel combination to run with the 255/85/16's. And yes, I would like to run an alloy wheel instead of steel bc it will be lighter. If I have to keep my steelies to run the 255's, then I guess i will do so.

You’re not going to be able to run that size on a first gen without doing some trimming and beating. It’s not hard at all. Anyone can do it. Each and every thing I had to do to fit mine is referenced by page number under the wheel/Tire section in the first post of my build. It’s a great tire size, and totally worth the modifications it requires.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/re-demption-rngrs-re-debatable-re-debacle.443620/

Also, you’ll need either a wheel or spacer that will get your tires out far enough to keep them from rubbing the frame.

Thank you! This is the type of information I am looking for. I have read though that some people have gotten away with the 255/85 on a 7" stock TRD wheel without any rubbing/trimming.

Everyone’ Experience will be a little different, but I don’t see how zero rubbing is possible. I couldn’t even turn in my driveway without eating the washer fluid reservoir. Haha. Anyway, it’s all easy stuff to fix. Small price to pay for some ground clearance.

Another note... not all tires of the same “size” are actually the same size. IIRC, the ST Maxx is on the shorter side, a couple tenths below 33”. The KM2 is taller at 33.3”. I believe the Toyo MT is even taller.

Good luck. Be happy to offer any advice/experience I can.

Greatly appreciated. I have been out of the game for a long time with my truck, and the wife gave the "go ahead and get what you want, do it once" speech.........so, IT'S ON! Just trying to figure out all the logistics(get suspension installed, wheels and tires installed, and alignment done in 1 trip) bc where we live is very rural and trips to town are 2-3 hours. Its hard deciding between the two tire sizes of 255/88/16 and 285/75/16. I think once I get that determined I can start with which wheel I want. My install date is in 2 weeks, so I have to make a decision pretty quick.

Just saw that you are from TN. I am originally from Brentwood, my mom now lives in Franklin. Crazy to think that Cool Springs was once a 2 lane road, farm land, and now its just ridiculous. I cringe everytime I come home.
