Don't know if this has been beat to death or not, but.....

Looking for opinions on a folding Tonneau. I've been directed to the BAKFlip G2. Are there any other units I should look into?

Thank you, I'll look into the MX4. Any good deals on them that you know of?

Check out the Extang Encore. I have one on my truck and it’s been problem free.

I see BAK advertise their tonneau's with people sitting on top of them. What's the weight capacity for the MX4?

Nevermind, they say "400lbs of evenly distributed weight".

I'm trying to decide between the Bak MX4 and the Extang Encore.

It seems that the Encore has better finishing, which for $800 you'd think should come without saying. I've seen people complaining that the Bak comes with unfinished edges, metal shards everywhere, etc. The Encore also has the option of opening the front panel as well as the ability to remove the whole cover in a matter of seconds. The front panel locks and can be keyed to your ignition key for trucks without push button start (SR and SR5). If you have an automatic TRD model with the weird looking laser-cut keys in the fobs, you'll have to carry around another key just for the cover. I'm still trying to find out if the lock is compatible with manual transmission TRD's that have a normal ignition key.

The MX4 on the other hand sits flush with the bed so it looks super sleek, and you can prop it up against the rear of the cab to access pretty much the whole bed.

Both covers seem to be sturdy enough to hold some weight on top, e.g. a person standing. Also, both covers apparently leak some without additional weather proofing or silicone, but that's probably true for all tonneaus.

The fact that the MX4 folds up against the back window and COMPLETELY out of the way is what sold me on it.

The lock will imprint to whatever key you choose. I like it for the access to the front of the bed and yes they all leak to some degree. My leaks are minimal and with a bed mat it has never been an issue. Lastly it definitely has an OEM look to it when on the truck.

the Encore 2.0 also folds out of the way AND it folds flat at the cab side so it doesn't block the glass. this is one of its features. it buckles down flat as well so it won't come back up from wind or whatever while driving. i have been very happy with my Encore. the main downside to it is repositioning the bed rails a bit, but that's no problem for my use. it's really nice having both front and back panel fold up access. i keep an organizer mounted cab side, and just folding up that panel is super convenient to get to my stuff.

had it over a year so far and still happy with it.

Be aware that some covers (Bak MX4, Bak Revolver) require you to lower the factory side bed rails, by brackets provided. Not sure about Encore. If you lower the bed rails, some other aftermarket and OEM accessories may not fit (i.e. bed extenders). Just something you need to consider.

Encore does indeed come with brackets to reposition the bed rails... drops them about 1.5" or so.

I've had my encore for close to 2 years and love it. It does leak a little. Just my 2cents.

Consider the Undercover Flex or Ultra Flex hard folding covers. Love the brand, bought the one piece SE myself. For a great deal contact @eccracer104 who is a rep for AutoAnything.com.

I’ve got my eye out for an OEM one, but if I was to buy new it would be the Leer trilogy.
