What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I have tc uppers and 285/75/16 mtrs as well. I ask them for as much negative camber and caster as they can give me. I’ve always had rubbing at the rear of the tire on frame and no where else.

 

why the hell would you ask for negative camber???

 

Bent lca brackets have my alignment all fucky, so the outside of my tires wear faster. A little negative camber helps keep it in check.

Not that I’m aware of but also not denying it. It’s time for wontons.

 

High caster, more that 2.5°, mean driveability. More positive caster mean less susceptibility to irregularities in the road surface as well as side winds from either other vehicles (big truckes) or the the weather itself (high side winds). +3.0° is ideal to prevent or minimize this.

 

This makes a ton of sense. I am rubbing on the lower part of the fender/well, so probably more positive to move it away from that area, but will possibly hit in the rear upper part of the well, is my thinking correct?

Don't take this in a bad way, but if youre giving me advice with parts that are broken it doesn't help my cause, or others that may want to know. Hope you get that fixed

 

Day 6 without my truck... I just want to have it back and to do some minor things to clean up her undersides. I also want to get the front bumper and bed rack powdercoated but this damn accident plus buying an engagement ring have me putting that on the back burner for the umpteenth time.

Straight pipe is loud and really only sounds decent on these with a turbo in there

 

I did the straight pipe. Imho not worth it, neighbors will hate you more. Also going to sound like a old guy the noise is not good sounding. Least to me

 

Looking up superchargers on urd for the 7th injector kit. Just to make it clear for me. The egr valve there talking about is on the engine itself or the supercharger?

 

I went through this exact thing when I installed my camburg arms. @Squeaky Penguin helped me work through it.

By adding the arms, You have increased your caster angle at the UCA by moving the uniball back toward the firewall in relation to where the upper ball joint was on the old arms (makes rubbing worse).

Several have said to look for about 3*. That may work with Stock uppers and/or small tires. However, with bigger tires, both him and myself have had to bump the caster waaaay up to gain clearance at the firewall.

This is accomplished at the LCA, moving the lower ball joint away from the firewall. With the LCA eccentrics set for maximum caster, plus the additional caster the upper arms add, I’m sitting at roughly 5* caster. I am having to run some negative camber to push the caster that high, but it’s necessary for Tire clearance. Drives good and no rubbing.


Long story short... adding caster at the LCA decreases rubbing at the firewall. Adding caster at the UCA makes it worse.

 

Nice post, so many people get this wrong.

Also, the negative camber will help your truck feel more planted in the corners. Trade-off is a touch of inside tire wear.

 

Quick question. I noticed the end of the cv boot popped off. Can I just reseat that end of the boot onto that shoulder and put a new clamp on for now?
I gotta get the diff drop in hope it fixes that angle.

 

That angle doesn't look to bad. How long has it been like that?
