I have the vibrations with pulsing 25-35 mph that go away when I turn left and also go away when in 4wd. I did the ECGS bushing replacement and replaced the driver side wheel bearing and neither have worked. Have also rotated and balanced tires. I do not have a diff drop... any ideas would be helpful.

I'd try the diff drop next. Can't hurt, right? Cheap, easy install and reduction in the CV angles will probably help at least a bit. That's all I've got...

I'd check the driveline angles. Toyota's have a small tolerance when it comes to that.

Hi guys, I've got an 05 Tacoma w/ 170k. I have had vibration in the front 35-55mph for a while now that goes away in 4wd. I have more slop in the drivers CV than passenger, sounds like I need the ECGS bushing. I have a couple quick questions.

Do you have to disconnect the tie rod to be able to get the CV axle out?

I just wanted to verify that this is for the DRIVERS SIDE only, and I don't have this backwards.

Has anyone tapped in the new bushing with something other than their install tool?

Does anyone have the puller that they want to sell?

    Thanks for the help

Anyone experiencing vibration without a lift? I’m just curious if anyone is, because it may be a necessary fix even for stock height and tires.

What exactly are the vibes you guys are getting. I get an intermittent vibration at ~20-50 MPH. Every 3-4secs I get a hum/vibe and can feel in floor board.

    2014 4wd sport
Icon 2.5” coilover and Dakar 095l rear.
Have tried with and without 3* rear shims, and carrier bearing spacer.

    Thanks in advance.

Does the vibrations go away if you turn in 4x4 when it happens?

    BC Jake,

Thank you for this post. I’ve had the same EXACT symptoms you mentioned. It all started the day after I had had a 3” Rough Country lift installed. I spent time rebalancing (road force) and the problem persists and recently added a driveshaft carrier bearing drop kit with no success. I’ll follow your recommendations and update with results in the event other are experiencing this.

    Just the basics
Sounds like you need the bushing, not steeper shims.
Have you engaged 4WD when the vibes begin? If so did the vibes go away?

Actually I took the carrier bearing out and remeasured my angles with an actual angle finder device and the difference of my working angles averages 1 degree to .4 degrees (measuring multiple times with some truck movement to ensure settling). The vibrations are less now without the CB spacer and the difference in working angle tells me the 3 degree shims would be better than my current 2.5 degree shims getting my working angles very near cancelling each other out (.2-.5 degree difference). Many people have generously given advice and many say with a 3" or less lift that spacing the carrier bearing is unnecessary and can actually produce more vibes.

To be fair, the angle finder device was way more accurate than my phone

I believe what I have is classic failure:

Between 50KM-80KM/H I get a vibration every 3-4 seconds from the driver front. Disappears in 4Hi.

So... I took it to the dealer who replaced the bearing under warranty. I have the 2nd Gen TRD PRO Suspension installed, so luckily the dealer was willing to replace given its an *OEM* Lift. Well within the same day it was replaced, it has already failed again. However, the vibration is definitely not as strong as before.

Seems like completely hit or miss whether this bearing fails, even with minimal lift. Trying to decide if I now want to live with it for a bit, or pony up straight away for ECGS.

So I have had this vibration for about 30k. Tried the carrier drop, tire rotation, and eventually found out about the ECGS which I am installing this week. My CV axle has no leaking and externally looks fine. Anyone had a needle bearing actually damage the CV Axle? Futhermore if I install the old CV in the new bushing, will it score up the inside?
