Was there an updated timeline after this one?

I'm one of those antsy millennials that @jberry813 likes to ridicule.

 

I received an email from Graeme last week. I am in the 2nd batch (15-30) and was told late April early May.

They have communicated that at full speed they can make ~15 per week if I remember correctly. Don’t know when they will hit full production capacity.

 

What number are you?

18 and still haven't heard, and that early May estimate has me a little concerned.

 

I am #22 I think. Low 20s for sure.

So far, communication has been good.

To me, I would rather have it done right than done quickly to meet a deadline.

I understand if people have trips planned they may be more anxious about a delivery date.

 

Let me first say I think this product is awesome, and the amount of communication from GFC is incredible. I also know you guys are super busy, so perhaps one of the customers who have had the topper delivered can field this one?

I camp with my wife and my dog, I am currently in a James Baroud on top of a ARE MX topper. The dog is a new addition to the family and I'm struggling a bit getting him up in the tent. I also don't love dealing with middle of the night trips down the ladder, it isn't the safest thing in the world. So at first glance the GFC seems like the ideal solution, however I am having a really hard time picturing the midnight pee run and the removable panels in action. If someone could shoot a video of getting in and out of the tent with two people lying down and the floor panels in (aka removing the one by your feet and scooting out while someone is faux sleeping next to you) I would really appreciate it. My failure to imagine this working at all is what has kept me from pulling the trigger. Thanks!

How's the fabric/stitching quality? Given everything else looks top notch I'm sure it's great, was just surprised that it looked far more 'worn in' than I would have expected.

 

That's my concern as well. The fabrics are usually the first to go. The most durable UV resistant fabric should be used, time will tell.

I have a question.

Are there any plans in the future to make the upper section longer to have a longer bed? The only way to do this is the increase the bed length is having a longer overhand ontop of the cab of the truck. I would like more than 6'6" of bed space. I am not sure I like the idea of removing/installing the two small cubes when going up/down from the top. If there was a longer bed those two cubes can just be fully open all the time.

 

Fair enough, and maybe concerned isn't the right word. Just sold my topper, and have trips coming up, so just hoping I can get it when I would like it, which is making it more difficult to be patient. I do understand all the effort that is going into these, and know no matter what I'll be completely satisfied with the camper when I get it.

Also - we've heard zero news on getting anything going for the 1st gens. Again, I'm confident what they come out with the 1st gens will be awesome, just not sure where it sits in their priority list.

 

My biggest thing was just the interior fabric looked very loose with zero use, reminded me of my $5 West Marine throw cushions. Maybe there was a thought behind having it loose from the start given these guys are engineers and I'm just an old man trapped in a millennial's body.

 

If I am correct, the 1st Gen GFC will happen when one comes up in the build queue?

 

I still think you're the first 1st gen order(at least in the order of recieveing them) and I too haven't see or heard anything for a 1st gen. I know I think they have an extended cab locally to use but I am thinking the mounting will take some figuring out to reach their standards. But hopefully that doesn't put you behind schedule..

 

Pretty certain he is the first one at order 18..

I think they have commented on the roof overhang previously, and noted that to maintain the strength/weight ratio they desire with the current materials it's not going to get longer.

Also - the sleeping platform is 50"W x 90"L - see page 50 and 52 of this thread. Not sure where you're coming up with 6'6" of length.

 

i'm fairly certain the sleeping area is 90"

I could be wrong. But that's more than 6'6"

 

According to the GFC site it says, "It takes less than five seconds to pop up, but sleeps two 6'6" adults in comfort.".

Yeah, I guess that could be worded better - but like we're saying - it's 90" long.

 

This is why I am usually reluctant to be an early adapter. Early timelines before full scale manufacturing is finalized are best guesses and things come up.

I can’t wait to get mine.
