I know a lot of gun enthusiasts here also hate seeing this at your favorite places to camp and shoot, so maybe this will help get the word out too. Please remind others to pick up their brass. It’s trash, and is really unsightly as beer cans or whatever are when they are left on the ground in otherwise pristine places. My 9 year old has taken an interest in collecting brass he picks up at some of the remote camps we go to and its really getting silly how much he’s picked up so far. Our latest trip to Death Valley puts the total weight he collected at over 20 pounds of clean, newly used brass shells! So please, help out by reminding friends or others to pick up their brass.

Always take a trash bag with me when I go shooting somewhere other than the range (they have trash cans).
That is the one thing that may end up causing me to post my property. I dont enjoy having to clean up peoples trash and shells in my camping lot.

I do have to say there is credit earned to most people for part of it - the sights we visited were litterless, even inside the fire rings, except for a few older clay pigeon parts. The only unsightly thing was that someone didn’t care as much and left shells everywhere.

Question: how do you dispose of yours?

Since I’m on a island and don’t have space for a reloading press and stuff I collect it and clean it pop the spent primer out and either go to a metal recycle place or give it to a gun shop so then can sell to reloaders. Usually the latter since not all recycle companies except it

Usable brass goes in a bag that gets dropped off at the range for reloaders (they keep containers for reloadable and non-reloadable brass). Shotgun shells go with the trash.

My local scrapyard gives $1/lb for ammo brass. I take in all my non-reloadable and rimfire brass. They don't care if it has primers or not or is nickel.

Number 1 reason public land shooting spots get shut down. No one picks up after themselves. The brass is only the tip of the iceberg. I have seen way too many TVs, bottles, cans, pallets etc. I always pick my brass and try to leave with more trash than I came with, but unfortunately there is always more. I don't reload so I just stockpile the brass until I come across someone that wants to buy it or trade it for gun parts or something.
